Bit of an "OOF"

I bought the Deluxe Edition at release to support Beamdog, as I assumed they would roll out more optimizations, graphics options and other quality of life improvements to this old warhrorse. Ten months down the road and it's still a bit of a mess. Frametimes and stutter. Dropping frames during spell effects or too much action on screen. Bugs and glitches in Diamond still present. UI resizing is a blurry joke. The new render effects are nice looking, if subtle. Except for the Depth of Field which turns the entire game into a blurry mess. This version of the game has not crashed yet, that's a plus. Also, you need to buy the "Deluxe" edition to get all the DLC, which should be included out of the gate for an "enhanced" edition. And there is a lot of nickel-and-diming DLC modules. Still, you get a massive amount of content, and besides the paint-drying dullness of the base game, there's hundreds of hours of potential fun, more than that if you drag along a friend or two.

Immer wieder ein Genus

Ich habe dieses Spiel seit dem Erscheinen bestimmt schon 4 Mal in 4 verschiedenen Versionen gekauft oder als Zugabe erhalten und ich genieße es immer wieder. Anfänglich habe ich mich sehr über die Enhanches Version geärgert, da die Umstellung der Sprache erst unmöglich war und dann zu einer Unspielbarkeit des Spiels führt. Das wurde alles gefixed und ich kann wieder und wieder Abenteuer erleben, nun auch auf Win10Pro, in 4k. Dank der Skallierbarkeit des UI, sieht man dann auch wieder die Texte. Einzig ein kleiner Bug ist mir gleich nach der Installation aufgefallen, der läst sich aber schnell beheben. Die Auflösung lies sich im Vollbild nicht ändern und wenn doch, wurde sie nicht gespeichert. Entweder passt man diese im Fenstermodus an, speichert und startet neu, oder, wenn was nicht klappt, schreibt man einfach die nwn.ini entsprechend um. Von meiner Seite, eine klare Empfehlung an Fans, die keine Lust haben, ewig die alten Versionen zum Laufen zu bekommen, zu patchen und sich am Ende ein Loch in den Bauch zu ärgern. Das Spiel wird regelmäßig für 10€ angeboten, wobei mir die 20€ für den Vollpreis nicht zu schade sind und ich Hoffnung habe, dass ich so vielleicht den einen oder anderen 'überholten' Klassicker bald wieder suchten kann.

Not perfect, but a diamond.

This game is far from perfect, but it is still one of my favorite games. The original campaign starts nice, and there are a lot of fun quests and stories, however the last part is a slog. Play until you need to hunt for the words of power and then quit when you get sick of all the hissing. Shadows of Undentide is grate, if you want a nice story and a engaging story play this. Not to long, fun quests to the end, and you're at a perfect level to feel strong but need to be on your toes a bit. The end boss of this campaign was the only one that I could beat without god-mode, the others where to hard even on easy. The Hords of the Underdark is fun, but is a bit to long and can get frustrating needing to fight so much. You get so powerful that most of the combat becomes smash, smash, smash util everyone is dead, or you meet super powerful enemies that becomes a pain to fight. Has a lot of good but also a bunch of BS. Turn on god-mode if you can't move forward. Now I'm looking forward to trying all the fan modules. :)

Hours of fun (for the Diamond Edition)!

Gameplay-wise, Neverwinter Nights is basically a direct adaptation of the Dungeons and Dragons system: so far as I can tell, most mechanics, abilities, spells and equipments are taken directly from the 3rd edition. It thus has a ton of content and complex character customization, allowing you to create a wide variety of heroes, but it is all well-explained and easy to get into: in fact, one of the perks of NWN is that it is much more approachable than earlier CRPGs, courtesy of well-made tutorials, intuitive controls, and fast-paced gameplay. Most things in the design of this game are well thought out! The story has exciting moments and its share of fun characters, but the main campaign is not the best seen in a CRPG: it's basic fantasy stuff, and most of it consists in exploring and fighting your way through hostile (although varied) environments. It sometimes feel like an extended demo for the multiplayer component, and the last chapter is kind of lame. Still, I think that the way it alternates between combat, exploration, and quests that can be solved in multiple manners makes for an overall really fun and well-paced adventure. Both expansions are good, and even better in some regards! Graphically, the 3D environments are great for 2002, but I think they lack the charm of the prerendered 3D of earlier CRPGs – plus, the performance was uneven for me. Otherwise, most “flaws” of the game are more nitpicks: some encounters feel tougher than they should (especially in the expansions), you are limited to having one or two companions, the combat can get chaotic, the inventory system could be improved, and like in the base game a lot of alterations your character can suffer are annoying. Also, like many others here, I don't think this version “enhances” much: I would rather have paid 10 bucks less for only the Diamond Edition, which seems to work fine on modern systems. Still, if you can get it for cheap, NVN is a lot of fun and a great way to get into classic CRPGs!

Fine, Just Fine.

What a great way to replay than a remake. as fun as the game is i get so much more using the toolkit and making my own mods/areas. Highly recommend for rpg players, d&d players and so much more.
