An All time favorite of mine.

This is by far one of the best games i've ever played, i own the physical copy plus the steam and GOG version, the main campaign is great and so are the several modules you can play. A lot of people commenting on bugs but i've never had one, maybe i'm lucky but i feel its an overreaction, i've played this on both steam and GoG and i've never had a problem, the game runs great on every pc i've played at. I think this is my only review but i had to do it since i feel the rating doesn't really match the great quality of the game.

A game that does not die

The fact there are still multiplayer worlds, that are persistent, with real people as DMs managing and creating stories should be enough to give you an idea about the quality of this game. No other game brought people together in small DnD worlds in a persistent fashion like this one, and every game that tried to copy this feature failed, including its successor. Closest you can come to pen and paper experience. It strikes a perfect balance between pen and paper atmosphere, but with even better rhythm and pace due to it being real time. Enhanced Edition is a welcome addition that solved multiplayer issues, made downloading custom content (required to join custom multiplayer servers) easy and generally more approachable to the new player. Prices on DLCs could be toned down I admit, but there is so much free content out there it is not even a big deal. Just search for free neverwinter nights modules.

Technically flawed and not that fun

BioWare's first 3D rpg is imho an utter failure. The graphics are vastly inferior to the IE games - 3D technology just wasn't ready at that point. The game play is very combat focused. If you enjoyed the Icewind Dale series, you might feel at home here. However you shouldn't expect the same level of tactical options since you're only controlling one character and your followers cannot be controlled. Path finding, navigation and controls are really bad, as is the AI in general. Prepare for frustrating moments. Sounds are recycled a lot, there are few (if any) stand out tracks in terms of music. The story of the original is ok, the expansions are slightly better. But keep in mind: Most of the time you'll spend fighting enemies instead of exploring or role-playing. The story is not the main focus. Level design is pretty rough as well. All areas (yes, really all) are squares, with corridors forming a maze. They all look very same-y. If you're a really hardcore D&D fan you might want to check this game out - but expect a lot of rough edges.

Amazing game

I have the diamond edition and bought this one for the upgraded graphics. I swear I was born too late. I would have loved to have witnessed these games first come out and experience them that way. The Neverwinter series, Balder's Gate, and Planescape never stop being fun. There's a number of DnD and CRPG games out there, but so far Neverwinter Nights has been my all time favorite video game adaptation of one of the greatest tabletops to ever exist. I plan on buying more of the originals like Icewind Dale and such. Honestly wish there could be more games like there out. The CRPG genre is really a mixed bad right now with big company giving us garbage and using a name to sell it to indie games which are really a hit or miss but can often succeed. Honestly believe that among younger players these games shouldn't go so unnoticed. I've often referred to going back and playing these games to a returning to your roots type deal. If it wasn't for these games there's a lot we have now that wouldn't be out there. Honestly love the classic DnD games with all my heart. They have given me much joy and frustration but I stay hooked.

Absolutely delightful Classic RPG

This was back in the day the 1st crpg I played. Nostalgia brought me back to it after I saw Beamdog doing the remaster. Although slightly rough at launch according to the forums, by the time I bought it and played it again I felt it was the same amazing experience I had back in the 2000s and probably even better. They even added a new HD textures pack that certainly makes the game look better, and if you dabble into what the community makes, the mods and modules made by fans are also plenty of fun, even if some are not so well developed. I'm currently doing all the campaigns again before jumping into the modules, but overall this is a solid RPG, with some dated mechanics (henchmen/companions) but with excellent writing and challenges. If you dabble into mods, the PRC Consortium is a really cool addition for those that want to play the classic and expansion campaigns and have fun with more classes, skills and available builds from D&D.
