Alright game but Pinstripe was better

*Acidently picked the steam key on the kickstarter so I don't have it on GoG.* This is far from a bad game, but we have seen it before. Indie game in a weird whimsical dream world with heavy hints of more serious subtext are not especially new. I backed the game because i liked the devs previous game Pinstripe, and in the end I think that one is the better game. + The artsytle and music are great. Where the game absolutely nails it is in the atmosphere. The characters are weird and just a bit creepy. + The story is good, but if you played any indie games you will probably figure out what's goind on pretty soon. There are lots of hints throughout the story that will fill you in so when the big reveal comes att outright tells you, you probably already figured it out. - The game both in combat and in the puzzles is very easy, Never died to a enemy, only died once in my playthrough and that's just because i didn't pay attention in a room with lazers in the very end of the game. Pretty much every enemy will leave health when you kill them, and the bosses will give you extra health after each phase, and if you really want to you can just farm extra hearts, not that you will never need them...). The puzzles are also very easy if you just pay attention to what people say and what you read on notes. - The length. It's very short. It's pretty much just 4 fairly short dungeons and a hub area. I usually don't complain about game length, and many games can actually overstay their welcome but in this case it really feels too short, especially for how long it took for the game to come out (the game was set to be released 6 months after the kickstarter, it took 2 years). - The controls are slightly off, especially when you use one of your upgrade items, it's never really an issue since the game is so easy but it's anoying. Concusion: I didn't have a bad time, in fact I quite enjoyed it for the characters and general weirdness, but don't expect a challange.

NEEDS SERIOUS TLC

This version of the game on GOG sits here, essentially abandoned. It hasn’t received the updates (or the DLC) that the version on Steam has, nor does it even have the Achievements implemented. It’s also a glitchy mess; didn’t have ANY of these problems with Pinstripe! My machine is able to run a vast range of AAA PS3 era titles FLAWLESSLY, but the cut scenes in Neversong “chugged” and “sputtered” (froze and unfroze intermittently), before finally crashing without finishing; at least it returns to the gameplay afterwards, but I didn’t get the experience of the “EMOTIONAL” plot that the game is supposed to have; ended up watching the cut scenes on YouTube, if only to confirm that my copy of the game, in fact, “gave up” trying to play those cut scenes. There’s been times when the game froze and crashed when I was simply traveling from one area to another, otherwise, the load times are still atrocious, about 30-60 seconds at a time. Beating the second boss the first 2-3 times, the game just stuck on that scene without the new song appearing, and Peet became horizontal (parallel) to the ground, and would just slide along it, and without being able to jump; the boss battle music was still playing, and the gates on either side didn’t lower, either, so I couldn’t proceed; I just kept repeating that boss battle until the game finally decided to work as intended. After looking up a walkthrough for missing collectibles, I can also confirm that at least 4 of them weren’t appearing where they were supposed to. Tried contacting the developer (Thomas Brush himself) about all these issues with the game, but all I’ve heard since then is the sound of crickets. Honestly, I’d like it if this game just got the updates, achievements and DLC it gets on Steam, and then I could finally experience it the way it was intended to be, as if the opportunity for enjoying it hasn’t been sucked out of the whole experience yet. No, uninstalling and re-installing the game didn't work.

Beautifully Retold - Now Made With Unity

This game is well crafted and tells an emotional story, albeit in the span of four hours tops if you're really the explorer type. The art style is reminicent of the experimental flash games of the Newgrounds days (props to veteran indie developer Thomas Brush for redesigning his classic story) while blending that simplistic 2D cartoonish indie design found in games like Night In The Woods. The music is also well done to fit the themes and levels of the game while adding an additional layer of emotion to the story. This game's story stands as its crowning acheivement. For anyone that's experienced tragic loss of any kind (myself included), the biggest gut punches take place towards the end of the game. While the story itself touches on loss, I would not consider it to be a trigger-sensitive game. However, heed the warnings if you're prone to being triggered by memories of lost loved ones. Aside from those shining gems, a few points of criticism include: - The game is rather short for a $15 price tag...get it on sale if you can - The bosses and enemies are painlessly easy...I didn't take a hit until the very last level - A minor "game-breaking" bug in the sewers where you can roll the inflated kid into a pit where he cannot be freed, requiring you to restart from the beginning.

Had high hopes but... meh...

This is the 1st game review I've ever written but I rarely felt that frustrated after finishing a game. I didn't really know what to expect with this game because there's no reviews yet here on GoG, except the fact it got huuuuuge ratings. Maybe I hoped for some kind of mix betwin Limbo for the theme, Machinarium for the design and Gris for the gameplay and OST. If the game was looking after something like that, it fell short everytime. Not by landslide, it came pretty close sometimes, but still... Dont get me wrong, this is not a bad game per se and far from it but it is a very short and easy game with an emphasis put on art and story. The issue is I subjectively don't think it should sell for more than $5. The art is fine, the music is too (although pretty forgetable) and as it is mostly based on feelings, I won't verbose too much on those. You can have a pretty good idea of it with a video trailer. For the story, the game starts on a disclaimer about the theme being very dark and mature and tells you to ask for help 'cause you're not alone feeling lonely. OK boomer. This desperate disclaimer meant to warn you against the soooooo daaaaaark and gothic side of this game made me grind my teeth before it even started. Fact is, I'm not at all against a crude and mature story with subjects like death but, except for this warning note, none of the game made me feel something at all. Why would you talk to your players like they're some frail and stupid beings who will wonder in a serious story if you won't even let them feel bonds or loss at all during the game? Gameplay-wise, it works well for most part (didn't try on with mouse and keyboard, though, but the game recommands a gamepad) because the very few skills, progressively learnt, won't ever present a challenge but nothing is ever explained or induced. Is it usefull to crush every piece of decor? Should I come back here after I learnt a new skill? Not a bad game, but not as good as Gris or Limbo/Inside. $5 top.

An E Game

Without native remapping, and can't play without an E. Garbage console. Without mouse support, some arrows are unclickable, and there's no keyboard key guide wse don't know how to play. Can use space to interact the menu but not to perform interact in game. I have rewasd but I prefer to give 0 star to this game.
