Fun, replayable, and memorable

Running atop a city of glass, on one side a shiny facade and the other an unseen darkness. The citizens live on one side of the mirror, perceiving depth but never living deeply. The runners border the underworld and the surface world, delivering unknown packages on the principle that their contents are no-one's business except for the sender and receiver. Their services afford them a way to live in a city they cannot adapt themselves to, despite the main character's sister being an enigmatic example of a well-adjusted citizen that has not entirely lost herself. An event drives the main character out of her simple delivery jobs and into the preservation of her psyche and morality through an unspoken loyalty to her sister. Her sister is the one who most closely shares in her plight, despite their different strategies of adaptation to the world of total surveillance and clean deception. In protecting her remaining family, she conserves her origins, which means she can continue to walk in both worlds, and see herself beyond reflections of light.

An Ucompromising Vision

Strictly as a game, Mirror's Edge is fun and memorable but imperfect and definitely flawed. The combat is clunky and awkward, the collision detection can be insanely frustrating and the story ends abruptly and in a manner that feels decidely rushed. However, this game is more than just a product and is far more of an experience. It's one of the few video games that genuinely deserves to be called art. Not merely because of the striking and timeless art style that will live rent-free in your head for decades, but due to the fusion of soundtrack, aesthetics and purity of vision that it achieves. This game is about flow, speed and movement. Everything else is just there to facilitate it. The sense of speed and momentum imparted in this game along with the aesthetics flow over your brain in a way that's particularly satisfying. Moreover, as most of us lead unfortunately sedentary lives, this game gives you a vision of freedom and adrenaline that we lack in our lives. It may even inspire you to get up any move more! TL;DR, this isn't a game, it's a VIBE. BUY IT. Note: at time of review I had already beaten this game twice on console but just finished my first PC playthrough in a little under 4 hours. The game is short but offers decent replay experience.

Artistically great parcour game

If you love minimal but artistically great level design in an urban setting, you are gonna love this game. The music is great too. Good electronix music from Swedish artist Solar Fields. The story is a bit basic, and has very clear twists. The whole story can be played in about 5-6 hours. Finding all the extras can take a lot more. In my eyes it is a classic. The Prequel/Sequel Mirrors Edge Catalyst takes things even further. Whole-heartedly recommend this game.

Great concept, poorly executed.

The first few levels of Mirror's Edge are some of the most fun I have had in a video game bringing me back to the early Sonic games. Running through a large city roofscape having to think fast as you try and find the quickest routs. This all comes to an abrupt end one third of the way thorough the game as it switches from a parkour race through massive obstacle course to generic FPS, gone are the roofscapes with multiple routs and options replaced with tight corridors and waves of bad guys (city police) for you to gun down and a bland unimaginative story line. I give this game 3 stars as I did have a lot of fun with the first few levels, the game mechanics and controls run very well and it is quite pretty. Unfortunately what makes this game fun and unique is in a minority and I could not recommend it.

Mirror’s Edge

This game is i think the best parkour game ever made ! The story is well written, your sister is accused of a murder she didn’t committed and you’ll have to find who actually did it and rescue her. The story is more depth than that and i think you’ll love it for sure. For the gameplay, you’re in a first person view and you’ll need to climb roofs to get to the objective since you can’t just walk on the street cause the runners are targeted by the authorities. The controls are extremely good so you can have a full control of what you’re doing. You can do wall jumps and stuff, you got it :) The fightings are also well made, you’ll have to right click when you ennemie is attacking in melee with his gun to take it or knock im out with high kick and stuff. The graphics, lighting, level design, Ambiance, i think for that time it came out, it’s speechless. How did they do ? I don’t think any game relased in that period was as beautiful as Mirror’s Edge. Maybe « Remember Me » can’t compete i don’t know, it’s unical. I don’t want to say it’s perfect that no game game reach that quality of course but it’s seems to be close, or im blind ? But i don’t think I’m blind... i am ? SOLAR FIELDS, oh god how that men made the half of the game’s feelings and ambiance, after finishing the whole game a couple of times, maybe more than 10, i can’t even imagine Mirror’s Edge without his music, it match so good with that game, it’s like DICE knew exactly who to choose ! I think i said all what i think about that game, maybe i’ll add more in the future, i used to do that when i find new things to say for a game so. Yeah it worth buying, but please if you play it don’t buy it just to have an action game where you shoot people and stuff, it’s more than that. You can download some mods and custom map after finishing it if you want, or beat the trials. Or just do parkour, chilling with the ambiant music with a headset like i do :)
