A Shining Jewel of RPG Greatness!

The Might and Magic series holds a well-deserved place of high regard in in the RPG world. I'll admit I came in late to the games -- I started with Heroes of Might and Magic 3 -- and I didn't know what to expect to make this series different from Bard's Tale or the Ultima worlds. In many aspects, the world of M&M7takes its inspiration from those venerable games. It makes for a classic gamer's paradise. You'll find an easy mix of high fantasy with a splash of epic sci-fi to spice things up. The game is ripe with nods to the cults built up around space operas like Star Trek and Buck Rogers. This is no cookie-cutter rehash of tropes, though. Might & Magic 7 stands firmly on its own two feet. I soon learned that differences are not at important as the quality of the execution. First, the plot is brilliantly conceived, and the writing has sparks. The in-jokes are comfortable and clever -- the developers wisely resisted over-indulgence of the inner geek that squirms between "ha ha, I get it" and "um... okay, stop." The entire games steeps you in the world, and it only subtley jabs at the fourth wall. Gameplay keeps the pace up while throwing the player elegant curve-balls to manage hit points and spell mana. The entire world is open to roam, and I remember times when I knew I had taken one step too many toward a danger I was not ready to face... but with judicious sneaking and careful tactics, I was able to explore on my own terms. It's no easy thing, escaping from a band of Ice Giants! When enemies spot you, they chase you down as far as you have speed to lead them. The AI will respond to your own clever moves, though, ducking out of sight or just getting far enough away. No guarantees, though. Occasionally I escaped alive, and that fired my resolve to improve and return. Some realms were much more exotic than I had expected. It whetted my appetite for more! Might and Magic 7 is a jewel in the crown of classic RPGs. Invest a few weeks in it, and you'll find a satisfying party-based adventure to remember.

Some mechanics people need to know about

I've been playing this game since it was released. and I love it, I always have it's my favorite MM game period. however some things people need to know, when battling, hit the enter key to go into turn based combat, this makes battles against large amounts of foes much much easier, also make sure every one of your characters has a ranged attack... even if it's just the cheapest bow available, you will be able to kill mobs before they reach you by entering turn based combat and using ranged attacks also download this https://sites.google.com/site/sergroj/mm#TOC-GrayFace-MM7-Patch-v1.6.2 it's a patch to fix some of the mistakes, allow for a much much larger resolution and I believe it fixes video as well. even though I own the original discs I'm tempted to buy it here for 2.99 just to have it on demand wherever I am. That's how much I love the Might and Magic games, not the heroes or crusaders... just the plain RPGs that where some of the best of their time and still to this day are better than some of the drivel that is released. You will not be disappointed

The best in the series

While Might and Magic VI is often claimed to be the best of the best, I think this is where the M&M series truly shines. With a vast world to explore, choices to make and a main quest that is longer than most modern games, Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor has always held a special place for me. Seeing it here on GOG.com, there is now absolutely no excuse not to get this overlooked masterpiece!

An amazing title

This is one of the few rare games that never get old or boring. It has the perfect mixture of exploration, combat, atmosphere and storytelling. It allows a true freedom of choice, whether it is when building and leveling your characters, the quests you choose to finish and the plot choices. However, the element that truly elevates this game head and shoulder above the rest is the feeling of growing power of your party. No other RPG, including the great Baldur's Gate saga, shares the intoxicating feeling of power you receive as you level up, especially if you choose a party of spellcasters: In the beginning of the game you can barely kill a bunch of giant rats. Even as you progress, you'll swear when members of your party will get killed from a mere breeze, you'll have to heal and rest a great deal after any minor battle and grow tired of returning to the city to restock so often, but somewhere along the game you'll cross that certain invisible border. At first you won't restock so often. Then you'll stop minding the health and mana of your characters during battle. Then, roughly at 75% into the game, you'll start to feel it - you'll look forward to battle. Blasting your enemies with death, causing them to run away en mass, fight each other as you slaughter them, raise their very dead to fight them and summon great beasts to do your fighting for you as you walk the battlefield, invulnerable with powerful protection spells, feeling immense power...no other computer game will make you feel as godlike as this. If you haven't played this gem already, buy it without any hesitation or regrets. I would have bought the game myself from GOG, but I bought the game twice already, and have it already stored in my mobile hard drive, ready for playing. They simply don't make 'em like this anymore. I feel the itch to start my adventure again as I type this, for the 50th time. Yes, it is really that good, as good as it gets.

Great

This was the best of the modern Might and Magic games because they had a class system rather than a wide open skill system. Having this slight restriction on party structure made for more replay value overall. My brother and I still listen to the music to this day. A must buy if you have 120 hours to burn :)
