Day 1: I crashed upon the shores of the Eden this morning, rejected by the sea. Plague is coursing through my veins and I will die soon if I cannot discover a cure.

Day 5: I am being hunted by a mysterious creature. It stalks me day and night. I cannot let my guard down, for he is a cunning and intelligent adversary.

Day 9: Plague is ravaging my body now. It hunts me down just as the creature does. But, there is hope yet. I have been making progress in my search for a cure. I will need to do more scientific research and experimentation, but I am convinced this island holds the miracle I seek.

Miasmata is a game of survival, exploration and discovery. During your adventure, you’ll encounter a mysterious and deadly creature. This creature can stalk you for miles, lurking behind grasses and vegetative cover. By treading carefully and quietly, you may be able to elude the creature. If you’re careless, however, you will be forced to confront the creature head-on. Exploration is a key component to Miasmata, so you will need to make full use of an interesting cartography system. You can use landmarks, such as ruins and statues, to triangulate your location and construct a map of Eden's boundaries and contours.

  • Freedom to explore and discover the innermost secrets hidden on the island of Eden.

Nausea inducing adventure game

I read all the reviews prior to buying it, thinking I would give it a try as I usually love a good adventure game and saw promise. The brief time played before nausea made me stop was intriguing. Pros: nice immersive atmosphere, the lack of music really brought home you were on an island somewhere. The first time I got caught outside at nite with nothingm but my lighter was pretty unsettling. Quickly I was caught up in exploration, viscerally felt the hills and slides when I tumbled. All that was good stuff. Cons: The camera shaking for whatever reason, fever fugue... illness etc combined with regular mouse steering promptly made me want to hug the toilet bowl. Point of view was forever out of sync with camera view and for this reason alone I have to delete the game as unplayable. The short time I played it already was becoming obnoxious that I could only hold a couple of flowers. You have to be kidding me right? I read that complaint in other reviews but thought it would not be that big a deal. It is. When you are exploring, have no idea where you are and come across some herb that you need but cant pick it up due to having your limit was really irritating, knowing that you may have a hard time even finding the area again. I have no idea why the devs went with that decision, perhaps to extend gameplay time? strange as they really tried to make the game as realistic as possible and in that mind it would be easy for the character to make a basket or use bits of cloth for a bag.. whatever for storage. the saves. or lack of them. I detest save points. Having to redo exploration and research because I couldnt find a lamp to light is .. well... retarded. lack of any instructions to read prior to the event happening. would be nice to know key bindings or some introduction instead of waiting for it to trigger some brief tutorial. so basically, I ignored all the negative reviews as I liked the look and premise of the game...to my detriment.

I like the game, but the engine sucks

nazosan wrote a lengthy review of what bugs me the most, but there is more: The game freezes for a second when it is changing the music, very irritating when on slopes. The loading times don't feel appropriate to me, I do have it installed on a Samsung 830 SSD and the game takes it's sweet time to just load the menu. Also there are random stutters all over the world which is very annoying, too. The physics engine is very awkward: I jumped onto stairs, slid on them uphill and was propelled over a few houses and died. Had to do the trip and the mapping all over again. I wish there were at least some kind of additional opportunities to save, so you don't lose another 30min to a stupid death. More than one save slot that you could save to and freely choose from, that would be cool, too. The creature sometimes hands around indefinitely because the way finding just does not a good enough job. The only way to get rid of it is running for it, which in four out of five times does not work. Sometimes I found myself in plain sight of the creature and the only thing it could do was growl at me because it could not find my way to me. Makes the whole thing less scary. Although I do like the way "cartography" works and that you are limited to only drag along one of each specimen at a time. I don't like the fact I coughed up USD 15 for it, ten would feel more appropriate.

Very unpolished visuals

The game is inexcusably unpolished in terms of the visuals, but the narrative and gameplay more than make up for that. The player-character movement system is very well designed, as is the craft system, mapping system, and interface. If they wanted to make a survival-exploration game, they did so beautifully. This is my new favorite game for a while, I just wish the visuals weren't so sloppy.

A great first effort

A good game for two guys to start out with. There are issues with it - mainly that the physics can be overactive at times and the game gets a LOT easier near the end - but it has great environments and nice mechanics and lovely design. I loved playing it. I wish the survival aspect was more developed, as there is no need for food in the game, which could've made it more difficult later on. Another gripe is that animations are a bit janky. The core game is great and the way you can feel your character get stronger with medicine is very well done. I would greatly recommend this to any one who likes survival games.

Tough to play but addictive

I played the game for several hours. Its not easy. Its challenging like a game has to be! There are some noticeable issues to make it perfect but is really fun to play. Initially it should seem too hard and frustrating but after understanding the game mechanics and after having mastered the medicine synthesis it goes almost smooth. Some visual effects are the most beautiful I have ever seen in a videogame. IMHO the quality of the playing experience if you have an updated PC is very good and the price is correct. If I could say a couple of things to the developers I would suggest: 1) Add shadows and correct illumination to the animals and specially to the creature. Even rough shadows. 2) Add food, and hunger to the player 3) Add some weapon to defend the player against the creature like long rods and things to scare the creature eg. with fire or making loud noise. 4) Change the roar of the creature and make it more loud and scary. Allow more than one creature. Allow the creature to launch some sort of howl or yowl. 5) Add a poket or a bag to allow the player to carry food, plants and fungi.
