MegaRace 1+2

NOT RECOMMENDED / PASS THE GAS. It is two games that are game-dev-wise super raw and not-there-yet, couched with some Lance Boyle FMV, Chances are you are going to like neither one of them. Go play some freeware Death Rally instead, that's how you make a driving game with guns. Megarace 1 relies on map memorization, pixel perfect road bonus collection and deleting your progress if you fail once, no continuing. Megarace 2 requires figuring out how to buy more ammo (I never did), somehow not die when one of the opponents starts laying mines in a narrow one-lane road in your face and not getting bored by the multiple repeats of same stages for no good reason. Also, no continuing whatsoever. Crash once and you will have to grind through the levels from the beginning. The controls are beyond floaty, especially in MR2. Do not buy this for the gameplay because it is not worth it. Seen better stuff in flimsy Flash games. Neither of the games communicate what their control schemes are and they are different between the "games." Space Bar shoots in both, , and - (MR1) / left and right arrow for steering and A (MR1) and up arrow for accelerating. The Lance Boyle humor gets progressively worse with the games, starting with "wow cool" and ending up with "for the love of the makers, please stop" by the beginning of the second game.

This is a janky game, but I have lots of nostalgia for it since it was bundled with my first PC back in 1994. MegaRace is a FMV (Full Motion Video) CD-ROM game. But don't let that stop you, because it has nothing in common with the infamous "Plumbers Don't Wear Ties." This one is actually good and may be the best FMV game ever made. The good writing and Christian Erickson's amazing delivery make seeing all the video scenes a real reward for finishing the races. You absolutely must try MegaRace just to see how good FMV games could have been if they were made by people who cared about making something good with the technology. MegaRace 2 is bad. Don't play it.

My first time playing megarace was close to 30 years ago with the SEGA CD version and that version was awful, so I didn't have high hopes when it came to picking this one up when it was on sale, but all things considered, it was a really fun game and the great cutscenes with lance boyle felt like it was ripped right from a Paul Verhoeven film. Both games are filled to the brim with charm and are actually fun when compared to the sega cd version I had played. I had a bit of a hard time getting my controller to work with Megarace 2, but alternate contols are still fine. If you're on the fence about purchasing, wait for a sale, but even at full price I consider them worth it.

it was on a cd from a pc-magazine & it became instantly a favourite, even tho' it's a keyboard-game & i had a d-pad 4-6 button gravis gamepad (the one with the screwable stick) back then...i loved the game...:)... it's a nice add-on for my 2 lil i4770/i4790 4gb gpu 8/16gb ram win10 pc's; on them i play older pc (90's - early2010's)/dos/amiga-emu games...still looking out for older cheap games on sale...
