Not recommended

Playing Mafia boils down to driving, shooting and occasional stealth. None of these elements were done right in my opinion. Driving is sluggish; cars are unresponsive, they handle like tanks. Shooting is unimpactful, guns lack power, enemies are bullet-sponges. Stealth is barebones: there are no on-screen indicators informing you about visibility or noise. AI can be extremely dumb, especially pedestrians who seem to purposefully run into your car whenever you drive nearby them. The entire game design feels outdated. The open-world makes little sense in this game, since it only serves as background—you can’t interact with it beyond missions. The plot is structured in such a way, that a cutscene is played immediately after you finish a mission. Then, a time shift occurs, and you’re in a different place, at a different time. For me, these transitions felt too abrupt, and made the plot harder to follow. The plot itself is ridiculous. Main characters regularly engage in full blown street wars, robbery, assassination plots, mow down entire squads of policemen, yet they never get apprehended. The dialogues are poorly written—they sound like fan fiction. The protagonist is one-dimensional and flat. The authors attempted to give him some moral depth, but it’s unbelievable because of the ludonarrative dissonance, e.g. he hesitates to shoot a gangster, even though he killed many others moments ago. Voice actors put on a fake mobster accent which is annoying. Music is mostly limited to instrumental tracks. If you expect something the likes of GTA series’ radio, you’ll be disappointed. Last but not least, performance is poor, with constant frame hiccups regardless of graphics settings. The only redeeming quality are the visuals, but they alone cannot change the fact that the game is bad overall.

A must play with some BUT(s)

PROS: - looks amazing and optimization is top notch - great looking reflections without overrated RT - kept original Mafia essence - story and character progression - fun cars and driving - easter eggs from that era - some boring parts were cut... CONS: - ...also some parts that help with the atmosphere were cut - no original music and this feels generic compared to original - free ride is sripped - crashed a few times at random; sometimes paused cut-scene kept playing audio - driving a bit more forgiving compared to the original (on simulation) - where are Bertone's missions?

Attention potential Spyware / Malware

2K has retroactively changed their EULA. Now they collect literally anything on your computer (including but not exclusively visited websites or payment information for example). Not sure if they are also installing rootkit like software in the gog version like they do in non gog versions. gog should consider banning all 2k games because I dont think that their EULA complies with gogs vision...

Now i feel like i'm De Niro

One, if not the best, story-driven mafia game, inspired by the greats gangster movies. Story: 10/10 Music: 10/10 Feeling and immersion: 9/10 Graphics: 9/10 Shooting (it's so good): 9/10 World: 8/10 Driving: 7/10 Overall: 8,5/10 -- Pros -- Great Story, great music, as i said heavily inspired by the typical gangster movies. Great shooting mechanics too! You're gonna love shooting at people! :). -- Cons -- (If there are any) Very short game, like MAX 10 hours in total, and really story driven. The Open World is a thing, but it's only accessible by a specific game mode selected in the main menu. The whole game is basically "go there, do the mission, black screen 'Mission Completed', then another black screen with the new mission's title and the cutscene'. Repeat. Absolutely worth.
