Not an adventure game
I've been misled by the large number of 5-star reviews that talk about how this game is supposed to be like classic point-and-click adventure games - one would think of the Monkey Island series, or Beneath a Steel Sky, etc. These reviews couldn't be farther from reality. First, several 5-star reviews are spam, raising the games average rating. Second, this game has nothing whatsoever common with any of the great classic adventure games. This thing is a short, illogical, frustrating Flash puzzle game with tons of pixel hunting. It only deserves some recognition because of its visuals. The visual are is done nicely - hand-drawn backgrounds and characters in a charming style. When speaking of adventure games, one thinks of story first. There's no story in Machinarium at all, just a bunch of random scenes where you randomly have to click on things until you progress to the next screen. Some of the puzzles are, indeed, logical but many are just unrelated minigames as is so usual with Flash games. Puzzles have no purpose at all other than slowing down the progress of the player - they don't connect to the story (because there isn't any) and they all feel forced since they don't relate to the game world or the main character.
