A Little Big Adventure
Originally released in 1994 as Little Big Adventure or Relentless: Twinsen’s Adventure, Twinsen’s Little Big Adventure Classic is an action-adventure game that became an instant classic on PC and PlayStation.
You play as Twinsen, a young Quetch living on Citadel Island on a planet that orbits between two suns: Twinsun. The dictator Dr. FunFrock uses cloning technology and teleportation to control the planet and its population. Twinsen is been having strange dreams in which the planet is about to be destroyed! The Legend says that only the Heir of Sendell, Twinsun’s beloved Goddess, can prevent this from happening.
Dr. FunFrock forbids everyone to even talk about Sendell’s Legend, so he locks Twinsen up in an asylum. Twinsen needs to escape to stop FunFrock, uncover his magical ancestry, protect the planet's secrets and meet his destiny.

I've played several hours to this game and I want to scream so hard.
When you play an old game, usually you need some time to get used to it's GUI and lack of tutorials.
However after spend a lot of time playing and testing this game it's still annoying for me. I read a lot about how to save a game, and I can do it properly, but it's really tedious. The controls aren't good, specially when you have to react fast because you're under attack (almost imposible to escape if you're in a close range + you don't have the animation time to launch the magic ball).
And, I had a lot of situations where I was thinking "And now, what?". While this can be fun in some games because it lead you to investigate, it isn't in LBA, due to that you cannot move easily since in every corner there is an enemy, and if you neutralize it, soon it will respawn again.
These conditions I think they were normal in the past, where you only could afford few games and you had a lot of free time to master it.
Conclusion: If you have enough spare time and you don't have other games, maybe you can find a good challenge here (hardcore, not due to enemy AI, but game design). However, for the most of us, it's better you skip this game and look for another one where you can play more comfortable.
I cannot express how fantastic this game is. It would be easy to complain about the difficulties of the controls, or the "running into the walls" annoyance, but those very annoyances are what made the game the unique experience it was. So, instead, let me tell you all the reasons this game deserve 6 stars instead of 5.
First and foremost, is the storyline. The storyline in inherently dark, with a dictator governing the whole planet, manufactured mutants, censorship, and random imprisonment. However, it is set in this cartoonish atmosphere that turns down all this darkness while not ever actually escaping it. It is easy to hate Funfrock, as you hear about people getting thrown in prison for sneezing in public or whatever it may be. It is easy to love to work against him, with a globetropping legend to guide you along the way. It is just so easy to engage with. Way, way ahead of its time.
Another added element is the free roaming aspect. Though not 100% free roaming, as certain areas can only be accessed after you discover different items, there are going to be many instances in which you're hopping from island to island just trying to figure out who will give you the next clue. The world is pretty vast, and everyone seems to have something to contribute. I encourage talking to everyone and using that memory of yours.
The game has action, with unique weapons that behave unlike any weapons in any other games. However, it is by no means an action game. There are some sequences of intense battling, as once you get hit by an enemy it can be difficult to escape them. However, the game is a puzzle quest, and all along the way you've got to figure out a) what is going on, b) how to stop it, c) what you need to find in order to stop it, and d) how to actually get whatever it is; making every "quest" a multi-step one. This means hours of gameplay, this coming from a guy who has beaten them game 100+ times (which I did around the time I was 12, let's just say I was obsessed).
People rant about this game as a retro experience, but it is just as relevant today as it ever was, gaming-wise. I go back to retro games all the time, and it is not only the platform that is retro for them, but also the gameplay (platforms, overheads, space shooters, etc). However, LBA was a different game unto itself, meaning that it can never truly be retro in the way that Raptor can. It may have memories of nostalgia, but it is unlike any DOS game ever produced. So, though the platform may be retro, I hesitate to say the game is retro.
I encourage one and all to play this game. It is a gem. Before the "revival" began, I bought an original copy on eBay for $80 bucks before. Now we can get it for 6? It's a blazing hot deal. Everyone should play this, whether you have childhood memories with it or not.
And the sequel only gets better...
One of the maps has a minor tweak from the original game play, which although I understand as it prevents the player ending up in a "blocked" state, I'm not a fan of. Additionally some bugs that were fixed in the LBAWin port by one of the original developers aren't fixed in this version i.e. the invisible mine in the hamilayi mountains.
Apart from my minor gripes, this game is and always will be one of my favourite games of all times. The gameplay although challenging to get used to initially becomes second nature when you become immerced in the actual game.
This game has a rich open world format which repays you for taking the time to talk to all the NPCs, however this isn't over whelming as the actual number of NPCs that exist in the game is highly limited and are more or less all entirely there to aide in facilitating game play.
The games graphics which were cutting edge at the time understandably look a little dated, however this is still a very playable and enjoyable game even over 20 years after its' initial launch.
If anybody is interested in speedrunning there is also an active Discord server devoted to speedrunning both this game and the sequel.
Overall, I'd highly recommend this game
My first time playing LBA "Relentless" was at my good friends house. We had gotten our hands on a Demo version from a pc mag in 1994. We booted up his 486 66, and installed it. From that day Nintendo was not the only world in my gaming life. I'll never forget the mind blowing graphics, or the amazing music of this game. How smooth everything moved, and how vast and beautiful the world was. This game still feels very fresh today. This is a very rare game that will be with me my whole life. I even have the original box art hanging on my wall at home. It's been almost 20 years since I first layed eyes on Twinsun. I have never forgotten it. I love LBA2 as well, but Relentless will always be better in my opinion. c:relent forever
I remember my childhood, when I was used to spend all my time with the sequel of this game.
Now I'm twenty-one, and after all this years I've found this beautiful prequel game. I cannot hesitate for buy it and play it as soon as possible!
So I started to play.
I haven't finished it yet, I haven't much time now, but I'm impressed: I just love the gameplay, the difficulty, all the little things you can do in it, and I also love the story, the characters, the events, the structure of the game ... It's an amazing work!
I really can't stop playing, all of this reminds me to my childhood, when I was used to see my dad and my brother playing and teaching me how to play. At that time I'd the game just in french or in english: I'm an Italian girl, so thanks to it now I can speak the languages without any problems!
Thank you Little Big Adventures I & II, I can never forget!
