One of the best adventures
I agree with the other reviewers this was definitely the best game in the series. In 1 you had to map mazes and I remember a gem hidden in the grass that you couldn't see. Three was just extremely tough. I liked them all three though. But two is certainly one of the best and one of my all time favorite adventure games, the beautiful music, the colorful graphics and.. Zanthia of course. A magical adventure that I sometimes like to play up until this very day.

Funny, Clever, Frustrating
As with the first game, the fantasy setting for this game is in danger of being too generic...until you start to explore a bit and find a gang of interesting characters spouting funny and enjoyable dialogue. The world, characters, and dialogue are quite fresh, enjoyable, and funny. In terms of puzzles, this game is definitely a step up from the first. For the first few areas of the game, the puzzles feel pretty logical and clever. The game makes heavy use of a spell crafting mechanic, which starts out feeling fresh, but eventually feels overused - almost every situation in the game requires you to brew a potion! As the game progresses, difficulty ramps up and things become more frustrating. At least one puzzle relies on being aware of real-world knowledge, and others are not deducible except by looking at inventory items available right now in relation to spells in the spell book. There's a point about half-way through the game where the character straight up tells you what potion to brew because it makes no sense otherwise. One frustrating puzzle solving detail is how Zanthia can sometimes pick up anything on-screen, even if it is 100% out of her reach. But other times, she'll say "I can't reach it." It's an inconsistently applied rule in this game world, and it sometimes makes the puzzles feel cheap or illogical. Overall, I really enjoyed the atmosphere, the characters, and the writing in this game. The artwork also has a nice 2D pixel art style, with some interesting and varied environments. Music and other audio is likewise pretty great! I'd recommend giving the game a go on your own, but don't feel bad about resorting to a walkthrough as things get a little too difficult.

Funny and enjoyable
Full disclosure that I have not played the first in the series. I got turned off these 'classic' games recently having played a few that were just annoying and hopeless "try everything in my bag together" style. Reviews suggested this title was solid and they could be played in any order so, I went for it! No regrets. This was a humorous game that had me smiling and outright laughing throughout. Not quite on par with Monkey Island, but pretty darn close. The protagonist is very likeable and her sassy commentary was a highlight. There were a few lags or skips with the voice acting but everything can be repeated with clicking so that wasn't a problem. I did not encounter any other bugs or glitches. While you can die, the deaths are quite funny, and you're always well warned ("this looks dangerous"). You do have to load from a saved game so if - like me - you decide to seek out the deaths for fun, make sure to save first or you'll lose your progress. In fact, just save frequently in general because a lot of this game was trial and error inventory puzzles. If you don't want to hike back to gather radishes again, you better have various save files so you can try different things out stress free. Good news is no timed puzzles except sort of the last one which, again, can be played again and again till you get it right. I have a low stress threshold and didn't break a sweat. I only used a walkthrough for two parts (once because I just didn't see something clickable), so on the whole the puzzles were usually well plotted and followed the same zany logic throughout. Once I got in the groove, I was flying along. All in all, this was a super fun point-and-click with few frustrating moments, solid animation, surprisingly large scenes to explore, and satisfying puzzles. I would strongly recommend this to fans of the genre.

Fun beginning, puzzles get tedious later
No nostalgia review - fun beginning and interesting main character, good art Puzzles started out fun but got more tedious later and a walkthrough was needed quite a bit at the end.
