Legend of Grimrock

First off, the reason I say "from awesome developers". Almost Human actually cares about their customers. There was one guy that wrote in shortly after game announcement asking if it could be played completely through the mouse. This person had some physical challenges and wouldn't be able to play if it needed the keyboard. Almost Human added in a feature specifically so that he'd be able to play the game. This was only one sale and took some programming time to accomplish. On to the game. It brings back so many memories of my childhood, not only from this genre, but the sense of challenge this game can present. Sometimes, the game seemingly puts you in a no win situation. Seemingly because once you get over the "oh I'll mass attempt it" mentality that today's games encourage, and actually think about the situation, you'll see that the game's layout will present an answer. This sense of challenge and "oh crap" moments is what games have missed for a while now. So if you grew up in the 80's or love games hard games from that period, you'll love LoG. If you think that a company that cares about its customers should be supported, you'll love Almost Human.

Classic hardcore gaming here is, and it's name is Legend of Grimrock. This game is hard. Very hard. And that is a good thing. Too long have gamers been coddled by wimpy, boring, lifeless gameplay that constantly holds your hand with boring mindless cinematic filler drivel and crappy characters, lousy voice acting, and lame plots that you don't care about. This is 100% gameplay. No filler. If Eye of the Beholder were made today, this is exactly what it would be. And it's amazing. The opening theme song which is both adventurous and strangely sad, is destined to become a classic. Then you actually start playing. The incredible atmosphere, creepy sound effects, traps, puzzles, and hidden secrets around every corner are tough, but never to the point of being unfair or cheap. This is a game of thinking, patience and strategy. If you run into a room all barrels blazing, you are dead. Period. I would keep on writing this review, but I have to go and play more LOG before I start having withdrawls..... Right. Now. TO THE DUNGEON!

Best $12 i've spent in years. Perfect old school translation to 2012. Nice to see the "dungeon select" at the begining....Can't wait for expantions!!

It's obvious this game was a labor of love for its development team. Most reminds me of Eye o the Beholder series. Good artwork,very detailed tiles and the monsters have good variety and execution. Slugs shimmer with sticky goo, skeletons appear moldy and move in a creepy militaristic march. Sound effects seem intentionally minimal to evoke classic RPG games of the past. It's a joy for instance to hear the gentle little chime signifying you've found a hidden room. Can be frustrating at times in terms of puzzles, but guess what? That's the point! Most of the time a few minutes of experimenting and your back moving ahead. Sometimes you just need a break for a bit. The game forces you to savor it. Players looking to "beat" this game in a marathon session are missing the point. I hope the game appeals to those not old enough to have played its inspirations. I think it will because it has charm and wit. Congratulations to Almost Human, they've really captured a golden age of dungeon crawling and with it the hearts of old gamers. Now can the team get to work on an updating of the Gold Box games?

I wasn't even a fan of dungeon crawlers back in the day, but I love this game. 'Game is such a refreshing break from generations of RPGs that don't seem to stand out as different. With the graphics, the spells, the combat, the puzzles, the challenge, the fun... -just get the game will you?
