The twist makes the difference

Kingdom Rush is a very polished finely-balance Tower Defense game. Most groan when they hear mention of that genre, but this is a stand-out title (read the review on JayIsGames for a more in-depth look). On top of all that, the gameplay twist is that 1 of your core 4 towers, the Barracks, does not shoot the enemy. Instead, it produces soldiers who stand in the pat of the enemies. On a 1-to-1 basis, these soldiers will stop and battle with the enemy, halting their advance. Until the Barracks are at Level 4, they are not expected to be worthwhile means of killing enemies. They are intended to give your other towers ample time to deal w/ the wave of monsters by spreading their ranks thin (there will almost always be more monsters than soldiers).

Very well done TD game

This game has not that many different tower types, but each of the 5 types can upgrade into 2 very different final stages. On top KR has heroes, a direct fire spell and support troops which will make you busy all the time: block an enemy troop, level your hero, let fire rain on a breakthrough of enemies etc. First you will play the story mode levels to get to know everything and earn some skillpoints. Later on you will replay the levels for special challenges and new special levels for even more skill points. But even if you have earned enough skill points to get every bonus available, 25 levels won't be done ... and then you will have to fight hard for every progress. It is beside Defense Grid my second favorite TD game and totally worth playing.

Good fun for awhile (but gets very hard)

A cute tower-defense game with some engaging gameplay dynamics. There's a short campaign and a number of other maps that get unlocked afterward. The upgrade system and selectable heroes adds a bit of flavor to the waves of enemies that you fight against. The biggest flow of the game is the difficult level (even on casual) that ramps up to a rather ridiculous extent about half way through. If you don't have the patience to do trial-and-error 2 to 20+ times on the same map, then skip this one. I've played through a little over half of the maps, and the difficulty is such that I may not be able to finish the game. Anyhow, it's worth $5 or so, but uneven pacing, elementary graphics, and simplistic gameplay don't justify paying any more than that.

besides campaign and extras, you can always find another way how to challenge yourself and do a little brain jogging figuring out how to get through the stage
