Disappointed. much grind!

I've only spent 9.5 hours playing my boredom with this game is due to the mechanics of sword fighting and especially the bow has hit an all time high. It's just to hard compared to other sword fighting games I'm played and with the bow you don't get any cross hairs like other games so its pure guess work on aiming, not able to steady your hand makes it extra frustrating. Sword fighting requires you to press too many key combination as well and use mouse compared to other games where the mouse is it. I get easily fumbled with it and I'm sure other will too. Left click for attack, right click for block, WASD for movement in other games easy as but not this game. You're required to use the mouse to move sword and click LH/RH for different attack modes and press Q and the WASD in the position when the attack is coming from, my brain or fingers just can't keep up with that many actions. The lock picking is also damn annoying compared to other game, need a super steady hand eye coordination on a surgical level. So unfortunate for my sanity I will stop playing this game., a real shame :(

Ubelieveably Good

Shorter than the sequel, but in my opinon superior. Game has a lot of heart. Growing with Henry is very satisfying, as he starts off completely useless and ends up being a medieval god. Story is amazing. Gaeplay is difficult at first but gets easier wih practice. Soundtrack is top notch. Incredibly immersive experience. Still my favorite game of all time! BREW BANE POISON!

2 stars for an absolutely gorgeous world

To bring clarity over the 2-3 star reviews one might see, they are absolutely deserved by the game because the gameplay itself is horrible, and this comes from someone with over 400 hours on Steam and someone who created builds to trivialize hardcore with all negative perks whilst being merciful and virgin runs. What this game does very well is creating a believable world, which was the main reason why I spent so much time playing it, whilst studying various objects within. I can tell you every historical inaccuracy this game has. If you are passionate about that, like me, 5/5 stars. The game's codex is a gem. Why the 2 stars? Most players want gameplay, and that is just boring. Fights are challenging until you level up a bit and then with the right perks and armour it becomes trivial, even on hardcore merciful runs. A lot of QoL features are missing, with the excuse that 'the game is highly realistic'. Spending half of your time looking at a time wheel passing by is NOT realistic. Awkward combat that can be easily abused by master striking is NOT realistic. Eating only raisins is NOT realistic, because if you eat normal food, then your energy drops and you can do less in a day, leading you again to the stupid time wheel watch, so you need to consume medieval potions equivalent of taurine based drinks to get energy. 90% of the time you spend grinding and doing boring chores until you become rich through the dlc town, or by boringly looting and selling stuff. After that the game becomes hollow since you have the stuff you want and the story is rarely interesting. Even selling is a chore because sellers need to be constantly traded and tipped in order for them to get more funds. The story is a chore, and besides a few nice moments and quests it is lackluster and very disappointing. What's more sad is that the story turns sour exactly after its best moments, ruining them, not to mention it felt unfinished.

The only game I've ever bought twice

I own KC:D on steam where I've got over 200 hours in it. I decided to pick it up while on sale here at gog so I can have a permanent no strings attached backup of the game because I enjoy it so. The setting, characters, story, and writing are all so amazing, and the developer's admiration for history is plain to see. People complain about things like quicksaves require a consumable, the encumbrance threshold being too low, the combat isn't the GOAT, but to me these are all just atttibutes that give the game character. Being limited on quicksaves may lead to frustration when you die and lose a ton of progress, but it also enforces the consequence of death. You get scared to die, and genuinely run for your life when danger comes instead of just shrugging it off. Let's talk about the combat though. Despite all the "mechanics" and pretty animations, they are ultimately just a veil to keep you from realizing that the combat is just morrowind's hit-chance system with a fresh coat of paint. If your stats vs the enemies stats crunch out to a 1% hit chance, then out of 100 attacks, 99 of them will be dodged, deflected, parried, or otherwise rendered null. My first play through, I appreciated it because I thought it was realistic, no matter how tough you are, a sword through the chest means you're going down. So naturally a tougher enemy would be more skillful at dealing with your attacks instead of just being a damage sponge. But for my 2nd play through and beyond I realized the down side: the system leaves almost zero room for player skill to be meaningful. Even if you have perfect timing and directional control, if your numbers are lower, you're not going to win. However, there is so much more to this game than combat, that you really shouldn't let the low combat skill ceiling prevent you from trying it out. Overall KC:D has been one of my favorite games of all time. I enthusiastically recommend it to anyone who likes immersive RPGs, this game is really worth it.

Dance of Disconnected Combat

Kingdom Come: Deliverance claims to offer a realistic medieval experience, but its combat system is far from it. The controls are clunky and unresponsive, making even basic moves a chore. Bugs frequently put players at a disadvantage, leaving them vulnerable to enemy grabs seemingly out of nowhere. The forced lock-on system restricts player agency, making it hard to strategize. Rather than delivering true combat realism, the game disguises these issues as part of the experience, resulting in frustrating and immersion-breaking gameplay.
