Killing Time: Resurrected is available here

The Original Killing Time

A sophisticated shooter laced with gallows humor. Killing Time is no shallow grave. Its depth is well-conceived. Puzzle solving and strategic thinking are placed at a premium. The visceral violence is complemented by paranormal graphics and a super(natural) storyline. Killing Time is a fright-fest for the true aficionado of first-person corridor mayhem.

OST in MP3 format is included! (Check inside the folder called "Bonus")

Features:

  • Listen to the remembrances of the 7 video-real apparitions and ghostly guests. They offer clues as to what past heinous acts actually transpired in the cursed mansion.

  • Look up and down - turn around with a complete 360 view. The three-dimensional mansion offers outdoor areas, staircases and intricately detailed ceilings and floors.

  • The original music makes this old haunt strongly inviting, eh? But beware. Every room, every passage in the estate holds dreadful dangers.

  • Enjoy continuous gameplay with no load time between areas.

On/Off Love and Hate

This fairly obscure game has given me a fair mixture of fun and frustration. The best thing I can say is that for 1996, and even somewhat by today's standards, this game has an impressive scope. After you cross over from the starting area, the entire island is pretty much open to be explored. It's what I would describe as a sort of "Metroidvania FPS" in a sense, although the only reward for exploring is getting more keys to open more areas since all the weapons are acquired very early on. Speaking of weapons, there guns all actually feel pretty nice to use, although the molotovs being thrown in a determined arc are incredbly frustraing though somewhat forgivable for the time. Gameplay loop is simple but fun, ammo is usually very plentiful in most areas but you will find youself running low in places where you're hunting for an important item. The plot itself is fairly unremarkable, an eccentric millionaire woman buys an Egyptian water clock to become immortal, then scatters bits of her soul around the island to have everybody and everything on the island to likewise become undead, and you have to kill em all to break the curse and get the artifact. While there is a nice variety of locations, many of them feel like labirynths, many times I missed keys I had never seen purely because the locations, doorways, etc all look so similar. This can be incredibly frustrating and I did have to use a walkthrough twice to find the keys I was missing. Speaking of, this game is so obscure every walkthrough I found was incomplete so good luck if you get stuck. My final verdict is that this game has something appealing to it that kept me playing until the end which is rare for many lesser known classic games, so props for that I guess. However, this is a game I could not recommend to many people as it is simply frustrating and 'KILLS TIME'. I could talk about how easy it is to die to level hazards, the useless jump, the clunky controls, but others here have already shared those.

I ain't afraid of no ghosts!

If there's something strange, In your neighbourhood, Who ya gonna call? 1930's Ex-Egyptology Student! Wait, what?! Made in the second wave of FPS games in the 90's, and created in the now legendary Build Engine, Killing Time is the game that you'll love in equal measures as you’ll hate, and only if you are an FPS afficionado. For everyone else, this will be a very tough sell. Killing Time must be one of the first games that put a story in the forefront in FPS genre, You’ll learn more as you meet trapped ghosts in the manner of neat FMV animations all throughout the isle that is designed in a series of levels connected with the central hub and its the time-trapped manor. This is another plus for KT because it’s probably among the first hub-level based FPS games, along with HeXen II, which later became a norm in this genre. Most of the locations you’ll traverse locations that have nice art design, with the Temple of Isis and the Manor itself being a sight to behold. End Boss encounter is also quite original for its time that will keep you on your toes until you reach the end. Unfortunately, there are many things that don’t quite gel with KT: all weapons are severely underpowered and not fun to use, except the flamethrower. Enemy design is pretty bad and simplistic with the sole exception of floating red skulls: they have poor attacks and attack patterns, don’t look interesting to look at and not to mention they don’t feel terrifying at all. Many of the levels feel poorly designed and uninspired: too many dank caves and small rooms in the manor; in fact levels in general are way too cramped, which is a death knell for any attempt of strafing. But the biggest minus for KT is your player: he has one of the worst jumps in the history of games and can’t even jump over a feet tall obstacle; you’ll also get stuck on every single wall surface and slow down to crawl, as if you are covered by sticky glue everywhere until you go crazy. Recommended only for FPS history buffs!

Wow this is a diamond in the rough

If I was being critical the controls are sluggish and you get stuck on stuff, graphics are ok for the time. Sound and music are campy but somewhat effective acting is bad as expect for game fmvs. But if you give this game 15-20 minutes you find the gameplay is compelling and dynamic and fairly original at the time. The Atmo grows and will creep you out so thumbs up there. Ammo, weapons and pickups work fine and hidden stashes are a fun part of boomer shooters. I wish I took a break from Duke3d back in the day and played this some it is great! Warning this is not a game everyone will like it is a horror theme fps so dark gory and weird humor.

disappointing

ive never played the 3DO version before but i was always intrigued, and the PC version happened to be very cheap on GOG so why not, i thought i would give it a go! unfortunately, something is very wrong with the controls, slow, slidey and if you touch a surface you WILL get stuck i have no idea if this is a modern thing (running Windows 11), if this is a PC port issue, or if the game was like this on 3DO and no one ever mentioned it it's too bad because for me this game is unplayable and it's such a shame since the graphics and sound are amazing, atmospheric and actually kinda scary if you can deal with this issue, or know of a patch or something to fix it, get it, otherwise sadly you might wanna pass on this -_-
