Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Collection

I remember getting a demo of this game as a child and losing my mind. Now that I've owned it and played it I still think it is a really solid experience. This is the closest 90's PC comes to rivaling Nintendo or Sega and I actually prefer this to many of their platformers. Compared to the original I feel like the level design is much more innovative and willing to try new things. There are some levels which feel sort of similar but there are enough excellent ones to balance it out. Also improved from the original is that the camera is much more zoomed out so you can actually see what's coming most of the time. Like the first this is chalked full of secrets and still to this day I can't find enough coins in some levels to get to the bonus loot. It works well as a two player split screen and the multiplayer games are pretty fun as well. My favorite levels have to be Colonius, Psychadelia, Jungle, Beach, and Medivo but there are some other great ones. I also love the variety of weapons in this one and how they interact differently and can be powered up to better versions. Great job Epic Games!

Amazing game, brings back memories

Jazz Jackrabbit 2 was the victim of poor timing. It is an excellent game, but came out when people were absolutely awestruck by polygons. As such, it was only appreciated among a set of people who were still playing 2D games in 1998. And you know what, it's pretty awesome. The story is kind of scant, (with nothing really connecting the episodes or telling you where you are) but frankly the other factors more than well make up for the lack of connecting story. The original Jazz Jackrabbit had two problems, largely. It was too zoomed in, and you went well too fast. This often lead to taking hits from things you couldn't see coming nor actually slow down for in time. And the levels were timed. J2 solves this in a myriad of ways: 1) The timer is gone. 2) The view is considerably zoomed out, even at 640 x 480. 3) While the game does well to make with the illusion of going rather swiftly, the quickest pace the game offers is definitely a few measures slower. Not only that, but the game introduces several new features, including special abilities for all three playable characters. A myriad of new weapons, a variety of worlds to visit, a smash hit soundtrack by the legendary Alexander Brandon/Siren and much more awaits! Plus there's even a fully featured level editor. The only problem is that the game might be a bit of a pain to get running, even via GOG's included J2+ thing. I, being a heretic in multiple ways, prefer to use Jazz 2 Resurrection, a reimplementation of the game. This is where Epic MegaGames finally made a platformer with no caveats...just in time to completely flatten it out with Unreal. Seriously cutthroat timing.

For so long I have been looking for this game not even steam has it. I have the orginal CD of the game, but having to actually get it to work and play on newer operating systems is another kettle of fish. Any ways soon found out GOG was selling the game and had to buy. Jazz JackRabbit 2 is so beloved to my heart, for this was one of the first games I had ever played has a kid. I love the story and characters of the game and not to mention the groovy beat soundtracks, I could just not play the game and listen to the music alone for hours. I also feel the musical themes in the soundtracks fit very well with every level, with their own quirk and charm and it just flows very well with the action and level design. The different mechanics of the game make each level fun to explore such as: - the super speed run, like sonic the heghog - or the action packed fun like Vectorman - and the score collection system like mario, but instead of coins and mushrooms its gems and delicious looking treats. This is one of the best 2D platformer games I have ever played. If you haven't had a chance to play this great classic I really recommend it! I give GOG their due the game runs really well, I just wish I was able to record the game in hd 1920 by 1080. Maybe someone else can ,but I havent been able to do so.

Many years ago i had the Disks of this game & so its easy for me to think of this as a good buy. The music is great, art work is nice and the level design is/was pretty unique.. here you have 3 playable characters 1) 'Jazz' 2) 'Spazz' & from the 1999 secret files 'Lori' (who kinda plays like Jazz). They changed the game engine for this game, which changed the camera angle.. no longer are you in a zoomed view mode (which i don't quite like but that's my opinion). Also this has Multi-player, you can play online or local (i believe) which is pretty cool as there's still players. This version also includes jsc (Jazz Creation Station) as it should. NOTE: This version does run in Windows & does NOT use DosBox. Worth the price?.. yeah as you get more than one game and they could keep someone entertained for hours.
