Iron Harvest

One of the best strategy games I played in last few years!

I really wanted to like Iron Harvest, from the beautiful artwork drawn by Jakub Rozalski, to the steampunk mechs, this should had been an easy win. Sadly, it just didn't come together. Compared to Company of Heroes, the game it clearly tries to emulate, Iron Harvest falls short in many aspects. The mechs which are a substitute to tanks, feel clunky and unresponsive, as do most of the units in this game. It's like I'm battling their bad pathfinding more than I'm fighting the enemy. Despite there being 4 distinct campaigns, they all end up feeling samey and repetitive. It's nice that every mission has cutscenes, but the voice acting in them is subpar. Multiplayer is dead. "Eurojank" does not excuse the terrible performance still present years after release. My advice is to stick to Company of Heroes, Dawn of War, World in Conflict - much better experiences than this.

Very enjoyable and ambitious game with great attention to detail and aesthetics. have only played the campaign but might try out multiplayer games in the future. Not sure why some of the critics are so harsh but from my point o view its´s really time well spent from a non-mainstream studio. I would alwys buy it again.

Selten war ich bei einem Spiel so hin- und hergerissen wie bei Iron Harvest. Supercooles Setting, phantastische, stimmungsvolle Grafik, Mechs im Jahr 1920 (!), eine Steuerung die runter geht wie Öl, spannende, abwechslungsreiche Missionen... Aber auch so doofe Sachen wie, dass ich mit einem Mech durch ein Haus laufen und alles in Trümmer legen kann, aber über eine kleine Gartenmauer kann ich nicht schießen... oder durchlaufen, sondern wackel drumrum und lasse mich bei der Gelegenheit gleich von Gegner in den Rücken schießen. Oder ich starte eine Mission, baue meine Basis, stelle meine Verteidigung auf - und werde einfach überrannt, versuche die Karte Stück für Stück einzunehmen - und werde einfach überrannt, hebe Truppen aus und renne kamikazemäßig zum Ziel - Bingo, Mission gewonnen. Das wirkt nicht so, dass ich die freie Entscheidung hätte sondern müsste die Mission so spielen, wie der Leveldesigner sich das gedacht hat. Jede andere Taktik scheint zu scheitern. Das finde ich nicht gut. Aber da ist dann wieder das stimmungsvolle Gesamtbild, die spannende Geschichte und auch die nervige Einheitenauswahl, die Leiste zeigt zuwenig Einheiten an, ich muss hin- und herscrollen um die Einheit die ich in genau dem stressigen Moment brauche zu finden - und tot. Daher selten so zerrissen.... aber ich bringe es auch einfach nicht übers Herz es schlecht zu finden, denn es ist nicht schlecht. Aber es ist auch nicht so gut, wie es hätte sein können... I bought it for the aesthetic and the gameplay that I saw in videos/trailers and I was not disappointed with Iron Harvest. The feel of the game is fantastic, the campaign is amazing (Great voice acting in the original languages and great animations to tell you a story); playing skirmishes against AI is also fun and I do not play multiplayer, so if you are interested in that aspect of the game keep in mind that many people have issues with the overall balance of it. There's occasional bugs and glitches that I have experienced for example: a) Loading screens that never stop when you press CONTINUE in the main menu (to continue with the campaign). But this can be fixed by making sure you save your campaign progress using the save option and loading back to that save file whenever you come back, it works better than clicking continue, for some reason the autosave feature on this game does not work properly. b) Immortal enemies, some enemies may glitch out and never die, reloading the save USUALLY works and fixes this c) Some of my units get stuck in terrain. There are some parts of the campaign maps that are untraversable, but from time to time, units may ignore collision with these paths and get stuck inside of this terrain. This happens exclusively to mech units (yet to see this happening to infantry. Some units have special abilities that may help them get out of this situations, some others do not. NOTE: Units getting stuck in terrain due to them ignoring collision in other RTS games is easily solved by deleting the unit/killing it. The devs for this game decided that having a delete function for this game was not necessary and not something they wanted in this game, because according to them every unit you spawn must be a "Commitment". (I personally think this is the wrong direction to take but whatever floats their boat) That being said, the Deluxe Edition of the game is totally worth it with the DLC included, give it a shot if you are a fan of this genre.
