Immortal Redneck is an FPS set in Egypt with rogue-lite elements. The game mixes old-school first-person shooter action with a rogue-lite mechanics. Frantic gameplay, twitch controls and an arcade-style feel meet randomly generated dungeons, a complete skill tree, permanent death and 9 classes with different traits.
The game revolves around a redneck tourist who wakes up mummified in ancient Egypt after an accident. Why is he here? How did he survive the accident? And why the hell is he mummified?!
The answer lies within the three danger-filled pyramids of Giza, all protected by an army of monsters and huge bosses. Obviously, your mission is to get inside the pyramids, kill all the enemies and discover what's going on!
Old School FPS: frantic gameplay, twitch controls and an arcade-style

Over 100 scroll modifiers: Each scroll picked up in-game changes your current run, for good (convert your enemies in to chickens) or for bad (reduces your speed of movement) and everything in between!
Over 35 enemies: mummies, sarcophagus, flying skulls, humanoid snakes, big fat warriors... All willing to kill you!
Huge bosses: two in each pyramid with unique gameplay

Way too much RNG for my taste. If you get unlucky, you die, and you will get unlucky. This is the sprint-and-shoot-and-sprint-again type of shooter. Unlucky means "you lose your crosshair" and "you can't stay still". Ammo is fairly limited, enemies are numerous, every missed bullet will hurt you soon. Room layout isn't your friend - the game at all is very hostile, it won't care if you die or live. I was kind of able to progress - earn gold and advance the talent tree, but I didn't see any improvement in my lifetime in combat.
The player character cursing and having "witty" comments didn't suit me either. To top the experience, respawn animation is quite lengthy, and I got fed up with it really fast. Overall, this is the kind of game you either love or hate. I happen to fall into "hate" party.
Immortal Redneck is literally a grind for better skills (not gear). Repeat the same levels over and over, grinding for gold to pay for upgrades, until you get enough lucky drops to have the strength to face the bosses. As others have noted, the negative scrolls are the opposite of fun, and can ruin a good run. No variables between runs except the randomly generated levels. But the only thing randomly generated is the order in which rooms appear in the level; the rooms themselves are exactly the same from run to run.
The gunplay is fun, but can't improve on or overcome the limitations of the rogue-like genre.
I have enjoyed this game. Its got a simple loot and level progression system thats the norm in these type of games. Run and gun FPS rogue lite. Similar to Ziggurat and Into the Pit
You make your runs in the dungeons, then use money you earn to purchace upgrades between levels.
The rooms have monsters that have to be killed to unlock the doors, so each room becomes a large shooting arena. There is a "scroll" system thats pretty cool, and is the standout mechanic for this particular game. When you pick up a scroll it changes a core gameplay element for this run. They stack on each other, so your runs can get pretty crazy. The weapon set in the game reminds me of Blood. Maybe its just the dynomite...
The graphics are solid, although there is a slighty hazy effect. I have tried adjusting various settings and I never could get the game to look as crisp as I'd like. The game runs super smooth, no hiccups, crashes, or bugs.
If you like these type of games this one is worth a play. In my opinion, its a bit deeper and has better level design and gunplay then Ziggurat, but it lacks the depth and overall polish of Into the Pit.
Immortal Redneck is a first person rogue like shooter, seemingly taking inspiration from the likes of Serious Sam.
This game has some good parts. The combat is fast paced and has a frenetic pace and you do get a wide of abilities.
However, it is mired by several frustrating design choices.
To start, it's a horde arena shooter and yet they give you very limited ammunition and lengthy reloads. I find this ruins the fast pace of the combat, as you have to wait for a reload every few seconds, and if you run out of ammo your run is basically over, because the devs didn't think you give you a backup weapon like every other shooter ever.
Some enemy attacks are hard to avoid and incredibly punishing. There's one enemy type that explodes into a mass of spikes, and a single one can take your entire health bar. There's not much enemy variety either; they just become bullet sponges as you progress in the game.
You do get difference character bonuses in the form of Favors which also have their own special ability. However, most of them are pretty mediocre, especially Ammit, which basically punishes you for using her ability.
What is perhaps the worst design decision, however, is the scrolls mechanic. Like most roguelikes, there is a random element. However, unlike say, Binding of Isaac, you have no choice in the matter; you don't know what a scroll does until you pick it, and that can ruin your run. Sometimes it takes away your crosshairs, so you can't hit anything due to the lack of Iron sights and the innate inaccuracy of most weapons. And since you can't waste ammunition due to how little you have, you quickly run into ammo problems.
Sometimes it'll slow you down to a crawl. Sometimes all of the text on your hud is replaced with fake hieroglyphics.
In short, the Scrolls mechanic exist to pad out the game by introducing forced difficulty, meant to ruin your run and force a restart.
Immortal Redneck can be fun, but there are better shooters and roguelikes out there.
