More frustraiting than fun at this point

I'm 16 hrs in the game now and all the little annoyances are becoming a bit too grating. Really thinking about uninstalling, which is sad cause there were plently of moments where I had fun and that's what makes me want to continue. A bunch of the enemeis and bosses really need to be rebalanced and the abilites and upgrades feel like they do nothing Needed to buy a compass doesn't add anything to gameplay, but okay fine. However needed to have it equiped and only having one slot for badges makes no sense as it just locks you into using it over other badges So much of the game feels like it was designed to waste your time and test your patience rather than your skill. I want to explore but I feel like everytime I do, I run into something that comletely sucks the fun out of it. This game could be excellent, but as of right now it has too many flaws that hinder the experience

Beautiful but flawed

I loved the original Hollow Knight. But I feel Team Cherry either didn't care or didn't learn from some of the issues the first game suffered from. This game looks, plays, and sounds great! But what really killed the experience is what happens after you die to a hard boss. Challenging bosses and enemy rooms are great! But having to spend a lot of your time running back a long ways (sometimes more than one area) just to get creamed again isn't fun and a complete waste of time. Another issue is the fast travel. Why does it always have to take so long just to get somewhere? Why can't we just have something simple and convenient like fast traveling from the benches? It all just seems like pointless time padding in a game thats suppose to be loaded with content and enemies. I'm glad Team Cherry had fun making this and I respect them for selling it for a very reasonable price. But this game just isn't for me.

Took the Wrong Lessons

Team Cherry seem to have heard complaints about Hollow Knight not being hard enough and decided to do a bit of trolling in revenge. The game is too hard. Where "hard" here entails tedious runbacks and/or platforming challenges often ending in boss fights. A couple is alright. But half of the end game is just these frustrating bouts of having your resources and patience whittled down by overly long intervals of precise jumping and instant death before you can even set foot in the boss room. There are good bits too. But the last two play sessions have been punctuated by bouts of extreme annoyance. To the point where I'm not even looking forward to playing again. Which is a shame because the good bits are quite good. The bosses are mostly excellent. The music is gorgeous. The environments are haunting, etc. etc. etc. But I'm kinda at my wit's end on runbacks and pitfalls and maggot water and saw blades. I want to love this like I loved Hollow Knight. But I cannot. They seem to have gone out of their way to make the game as annoying as possible. So that's how I feel about it, annoyed. It's an annoying game. Not really what I'm trying to get out of gaming experiences.

Hollow Knight: Expert mode

Extremely high quality game with absolutely no learning curve aside from the first area. Every upgrade out of the few you're able to get, gives you an almost meaningless advantage while the difficulty continues to ramp up. Regular enemies dodge and shoot or rush you. Too many enemies, bosses, and traps do double damage. No areas give you a break. There are traps and combinations of enemies that give you little leeway whether you want to run or fight. The map system still sucks; requiring you to buy a map and have the compass equipped at all times. When you find a quiet area, be ready because you're either fighting a miniboss, a boss, or a squad of enemies. You will be forced to waste hours watching video guides, or try to find other people to give advice, but again, most upgrades' advantages are miniscule. The biggest kick in the pants is that the developers clearly read a book on what human beings' fastest reaction time is, and went with exactly that number for every enemy and boss attack in the game so healing is a chore, attacking is a chore, etc. But the worst part honestly is the fandom around this series. Any criticism and you get swarmed. I give this game a 2. It could be a 5 if it treated its players with respect, and not just experts, speedrunners, and people who rest their ego on their skill in, an admittedly very cool, notwithstanding the relentless abusive difficulty, videogame about bugs.

Disappointed

As a fan of HK1, I was really looking forwad for silksong. I'm disappointed so far. It seems the developpers only tried to make this game as frustrating as possible. The game is too punishing for no reason, even in the early game. Movement is clunky. A lot of things do 2 damage, even simple contact damage. Flying enemies are annoying. I wanted to love this game but I'm not sure I want to continue further :/
