This mission will take Hocus to 16 unique realms, each filled with unique dangers and enemies. Few have survived Terexin's final test. For many it's a one-way trip.
Along the way Hocus will encounter dragons, imps, ghosts and 30 more unique creatures, demons and enemies. Survive, and Hocus becomes a full-fledged, card carrying Wizard. The other option is not so favorable. After every two levels of play the level graphics, background and enemies completely change, giving this game unparalleled variety. Hocus Pocus is a action platform game, with exciting puzzles built into each level's structure.
Hocus is armed with a standard magic spell (he's not yet a full Wizard, after all), but he can find several potions that give him a temporary boost of magical energy. There are potions that give Hocus the ability to shoot rapidly, jump higher, teleport and fire a devastating energy blast, among others.
So Smooth, It's Magic: Smooth 360-degree scrolling, with a parallax background.
Six is the Magic Number: Over 6 megs of 256-color VGA animated graphics.
Monster Mayhem: Over 30 different monsters, four huge bosses and 36 huge levels.

Enjoyable platformer
There's some kind fo story to it, not sure what its exactly about but it involves wizards and stuff and talking to the old guy. This is not exactly a difficult game so it's actually really enjoyable all the way through.

An old game, but really addictive
I'm currently playing Hocus Pocus in Linux. Even though the goal of the game is simple, I find it really addictive. Definitely, a must-have.

Simple but Fun
This platformer has good level design and good graphics for it's time. Rarely do you get stuck wandering around confused because you are unsure where to go (which can happen with similar games). The controls are a little floaty, but once you get used to them that floatiness actually becomes an asset. So don't turn it off right away because the controls feel slippery. Do yourself a favor and wait a couple levels, so that you can appreciate the controls as a gameplay device rather than just an irritating quirk.

A nostalgic platformer for the ages.
I grew up playing the shareware version of this game (the first episode) to death, over and over in DOS. Now 25, I see the game available for sale and just have to get it for the sake of nostalgia. I was not disappointed in my playthrough. Apogee was the coolest, let's get that out of the way right away. Monster Base, Commander Keen, everything. Hocus Pocus seems to get overlooked, but is in no way an exception. Simple? Oh yes. Repetitive? Maybe a little, but you don't play this sort of game for extreme depth or complex controls. It's very much a kids/young adult sort of game, in terms of challenge, but I still found myself playing late into a couple of nights to complete the game, and rarely did the levels seem very redundant to me. Fun music, cool visuals, reasonable assortment of challenges for what it is, I can't really think of any reason to knock this game off. I'd recommend it every time!

Simple, but great
This is an extremely enjoyable little gem of a game. Despite not having too many mechanics (it's just jumping and shooting, with occasional different shooting and different jumping), it manages to be very fun to play nonetheless. The nostalgia factor is very strong with this one, but even people who play it for the first time should find something of interest here.
