So I recently unearthed my HOMM III cds to install them on my new laptop. Much to my horror I no longer have an operating system that is compatible. So here I go downloading it! One of the most fun games I have ever played. Sure I might get swept up with the newer products, but the old classics never fail to provide an evening of enjoyment.

First of all i have to tell i have this game also on original disc, i bought it also here cause i find easier and faster to install it when i wanna spend couple of days on it. I played, or at last "tryed" all 5 chapters. This one in my opinion is the best HOMM chapter, froget IV and V that are not the same game (and are not on GOG btw), and HOMM II is nearly same as this one but with older graphic. This game is the classic turn based fantasy where you need to explore, find artifacts, level up and improve your heroes, build structures to develop new armies etc. This is the best one i played until now, also there is a random map generator and a solid editor that basically add infinite longevity to this game. If you like turn based games this is a must.

Little more to say ... excellent graphics for it's time, perfect sountrack, and really long-lasting gameplay. I've finished all of them, including the Chronicles series. Perhaps the addition of the latter would add more value to this already excellent offer (and a motive to buy the games once more ...).

The 3rd version of HoMM is my favorite of the series, although HoMM2 is very close. Whereas #2 exudes the most "charm", with it's fairy-tale look, this one is the most refined. Too bad about H4, truly a disappointment. TBS games seem a lost art today, with way too many shooters regurgitated over and over. Oh, another Call of Duty! Yippee! Old-school games like the HoMM series, point-and-click Adventure games, and classic RPGs are what drew me to GOG, and I'm here to stay.
