Fun little arcade shooter

You run/fly around in a mech suit blowing stuff up. That's it. It's fun though and cheap. It only has a campaign mode. I clocked in at about 90 minutes for completion, plus some extra time because of missions restarts. No real story aside from some mission briefing screens and some good job messages. The campaign has three basic mission types, offense, defense and escort, with some overlap between them. I beat most missions first try and except the third last and second last missions. Only the second last mission requires some planning as you have no base so you cannot heal. The camera controls are a little wonky first, but fine once you get used to them. Overall, it's a fun little mech game. I payed $2 for it on sale and I got about 2 hours of enjoyment.

Played on Xbox back in the day

Ah yes, Gun Metal. I remember you fondly. You play as mech that can transform into a jet to blast away bad guys from any angle you can shoot from. But you'll probably beat it in just a few hours. Gun metal is, unfortunately, a cheap and short game with small levels, but is packed with a pretty solid amount of high speed action and fun for its size. I can only hypothesis whoever was in charge didn't care much for it, even though every 13 year old boy who might play Gun Metal would love it. It had the potential to be so much more. It could have been a franchise. There was a meager attempt to make the game worth a full game's price (back in the day) in that you can go back and replay any level after completing the game... with all your upgrades. Normally that's cool. Some of those levels you might have struggled with the first time are suddenly incredibly easy... so easy that it sucks all the fun out it. Yup. If the game hadn't been so short and had more replay value, I would have called it a hidden gem. But alas, it's what we got. I wouldn't say no to a reboot if actual effort was involved in its production. If you're curious, I promise it'll blow your mind for an evening and then you'll go, "That's it? Why didn't they do more?" I vouch the sale price seems pretty fair for what little there is even though I don't feel any personal need to pay a few bucks for a bit of nostalgia. Been there, done that already.

It's okay

Got it for around 50 cents, thought it looked cool. > Game is really short (2-3 hours long) and gets a bit repetitive by the end. > It has a 30 fps lock that you cannot get past > Weird input delay when and a bit after transforming, which gets annoying > Controlling the camera and flight direction is more akin to an RTS, where you point your mouse in the direction you want to fly and the camera turns along with your movement. The game is alright, but it's nothing to write home about. All the things I mentioned really hampered my ability to enjoy the game. Try it yourself on sale if you're really curious, like I was.

GUNMETAL

A really Fun Transformer/Mech game... The Missions are all voice narrated with a visual of the Mission and objectives. Everything about this game is well done. Shout out to GOG for making this available as DRM FREE.

Fun but short.

The gameplay is pretty fun. You can seamlessly transition between a mech and a jet, but you will spend most of your time as the jet. There are some situations where being on the ground is preferable, but they are few and far between. Overall, a pretty fun shoot'em up. The biggest flaw is its length. You can easily be done with the game in a couple of hours. Once you are done with there is not much left to do other than replay the levels, to which there is no point at all. You are also a bit too durable for my taste. Most enemies hit you for 1 health at a time so with 100 health, the stakes are not very high most of the time. You can also just go back to a healing point at any time and heal to full for free. Would have been more fun if the game was a bit more challenging.
