Dark, Depressing, Bland...

I can kinda understand why this game wasn't a big hit when it first released. It is a massive departure from traditional LucasArts games. The world of Grim Fandango is a dark, depressing, and bland one. I honestly got to the second half of the game and didn't want to go any further. A world full of skeletons and the occasional odd character... just isn't as interesting as a world of pirates or a pair of buddy cops. The setting, the tone, the characters... it all just seems like a bad choice. The humor is very hit and miss too. Overall, not my kind of Adventure game.

1/5 as a game but other parts saves it

As a game it's very disappointing. Much of the time boring and annoying. The optional things, like running around and talking to other characters etc is great but progressing in the game is often a hassle. I tried my best to start liking it but couldn't. Too many puzzles that makes no sense at all. Try every item on every character kind of puzzles. Then eventually I decided to start using a guide. I didn't want to keep playing but I wanted to know the end of the story, hear more of the dialogue etc. Whenever I didn't progress as fast as I felt like, I'd just check a guide. It's not like solving the puzzles is any rewarding anyway. Hang a wet cloth on some hanger, bottle some dirty water and give it to some random guy, god knows. Some of the worst puzzles I've encountered. I prefer difficult puzzles to just randomly trying everything everywhere. It's a shame! The game could have been great. I'd recommend it but don't waste too much of your time. Better played with a guide ready.

No Sound!

I was really looking forward to playing this game again after many years in the abyss only to find that the game has no sound. This makes this classic totally unplayable, especially considering the price paid! I am running an early 2014 iMac and am very dissapointed that a game that claims to be mac friendly is not.

Best adventure game ever!GREAT remaster

I've been in love with this game since I played it for the fist time when I was still a kid! I was charmed by the setting, soundtrack, characters, perfect Portuguese dubbing (the best ever made, even better than the original in English, and I usually HATE dubs), etc etc. Certainly one of the best games of the last 30 years. I have finished the original (still have the CD's!) many times, but throughout the years making the game run became a chore. It was very difficult to make the game run without crashing at certain moments, and when I moved away from windows entirely and became I mac user, it was even harder.Oh but how I yearned for the day when the original creators smiled upon their masterpiece once more and made it available natively for modern systems! When the news that a remaster was being baked I couldn't believe my eyes and ears. I actually cried when I saw the announcement (that's how good this game is). I pre-ordered and now here I am, playing Grim Fandango natively on my Mac Mini, on the first day of release. The remaster is impeccable. The new textures are beautiful and in no way make you think the game has changed. The re-recorded soundtrack with real orchestra makes a big difference as well. I think that the light effects and new shadows are what make the most difference and this game truly deserves this. The original game was perfect and I would play it for as long as I could, but this new version make this the eternal gem it was supposed to be, without squiggly lines and square shadows, but with the same, untouched designs. If, however, you somehow loathe the idea of remastered graphics, you can press "backspace" at any time and the graphic rolls back a decade or so and you get the original graphics in less than a second (with a nice transition no less!). After you see the difference, I doubt you will, though! BUY THIS GAME
