Brilliant Game, good remake

Not much can be said about the original Grim Fandango that hasn't already been said, That being said i'll mostly be talking about noticeable changes in the remaster. For starters, the Remastered Version got a rather large lighting overhaul which definitely helps create atmosphere in some parts, though at points can be slightly excessive. They also improved the character models a far bit, nothing much, simply smoothed them out a bit and increased some resolutions but its noticeable enough to warrant a mention. The most major improvement to the game is the new control system that replaces the awkward tank controls, though if you really want to there is an achievement for playing the whole game with tank controls. The new point and click control system makes the game much easier to understand and fun to play than before as this was one of the main gripes with the original. Throughout my whole playthough of the game i only encountered one glitch was only graphical (Basically the bread from the parade appeared in the form it appears when its done and thus gone as appose to its normal model) and it was easy to figure out what was happening and deal with it. Overall this is a very good remake of Grim Fandango.

This is the best way of doing a remaster

Grim fandango is one of my, if not my favorite game ever. I was curious to see how well it has aged. Very well indeed. Because the backgrounds were so good to start with, I am pleased with what they chose to remaster. Makes it FAR more enjoyable to look at. So, why 4 stars? The controls and the bugs. It is tedious to control, no matter the selected scheme. I am thankful for controller support though. But the bugs, oh the bugs! Save save save. Game freezes, sound distortions and a bunch of visual glitches. The game itself? This is perhaps the best voice acting of any game; worth the price just for that. As for new gamers, you will find this HARD. Some puzzles are incredibly annoying (technically, not because they are weird, like you have to stand at the exact spot where you swear you already went before, etc.). Story wise, impeccable except for one thing: when Salvador asks if Manny is in love with Meche before the forest, that makes 0 sense at this point, he has been with Meche no more than 7 minutes! After that though, all the relationships are brilliant, especially with Glottis! I hope this sells enough to get DOTT remastered as well.

Amazing game, flawed remake

This is, without a doubt, one of the greatest games of all time. The characters and dialogue are brilliant, the story is epic, and the gameplay and puzzles are challenging, but fun. The fact that it's finally being re-released is awesome, but unfortunately this remake does have its flaws. Bugs and glitches abound, and the game crashed quite a few times on me. Once the game wouldn't start up at all and I had to reinstall it and replay the game from the beginning to get back to where I was! The "remastered" graphics aren't even in HD. However, I guess I can forgive the game for all its faults, as you can switch to the original graphics at any time, which may stop the crashing problem, and the remake did introduce me and many others to a gem of a game that we wouldn't have been able to experience otherwise. So despite its flaws, I'm still going to give it a 5/5.

Nicht nur wegen Remake

Die Geschichte, Dialoge, Raetsel, Musik und einzigartige Umsetzung sind es wert das Spiel zu spielen. Wie sich die gestochen scharfen neuen Texturen der Charaktere vom teilweise etwas matschigen 3D Hintergrund abheben, gibt dem Spiel ein eigenes Flair. Grim Fandango ist nicht albern aber nimmt sich selbst auch nicht zu ernst, nach einer Weile fuehlt man sich in die Welt ein und es kommt einem selbstverstaenlich vor das alle tot sind. Fuer das komplette Spiel gibt es exellente deutsche Sprachausgabe und Witze funktionieren auch hier. Wer einen Controller besitzt sollte diesen benutzen, Manny schaut automatisch auf Dinge die ihn interessieren und das Spiel hebt sich damit nochmal von normalen Wimmelbildern ab. Optional kann man sogar Kommentare der Entwickler einblenden waehrend des Spiels oder mit klassischer Grafik spielen.
