To be honest, this game is a little bit disappointing. Too few skills, not that thrilling story. tries to be a little bit of everything, but ends up being nothing special at all.

Pleasant Surprise
This is one of the best RPGs I've played in recent years. Having not really enjoyed Mars Warlogs or Technomancer, I was about ready to dismiss Spiders, but GreedFall changed my mind. The main reasons to play GreedFall are clearly the story and the world building. If you're looking for a lootbased game, this isn't it. If you're looking for the next Dark Souls, that will challenge you immensely, this also isn't it. That's not to say combat is terrible, in fact, I quite enjoyed it but, to me, it's not the main selling point of the game. If you enjoyed Gothic 1 and 2 way back in the day, this is probably your game. The writing is great, the world is interesting and believable and none of the quests felt like busywork. All of the companions are well fleshed out and likeable (that might be subjective). The choices you make are meaningful and callbacks to things you did are frequent. There are a few twists that I did not immediately see coming, which seems rare these days. I cannot say enough good things about the world building. Especially after how lifeless and bland The Outer Worlds felt to me, GreedFall's Teer Fradee and it's factions were a welcome change of pace. Even within these factions, not everyone is marching in lockstep and sometimes you might find yourself agreeing more with the natives and sometimes it might be one of the other factions. A few words on "bugs" and "jankiness". Personally I feel people overemphasise that, for whatever reason. The game hasn't crashed on me once in nearly 50 hours and the worst bug I've seen in game was an NPC getting stuck for a few seconds before moving on. That's definitely no worse than any other RPG I've played and it didn't take away from the experience for me. The game also ran smoothly for me, but again, your mileage may vary.

Old Bioware RPG with Spiders' design.
Great game, if I could describe this game in a synopsis it would be like an Old Bioware RPG with souls-like combat and a more gritty setting. The plot is great, and the side quests are also interesting as they are related to the game's plot one way or another (either by functioning as exposition to game's plot or by functioning as character development to the companions). The companions have interesting backstories and they can provide help in solving quests, something I have yet to see in many mainstreams RPGs. Combat is a little clunky, but enjoyable. You can pretty much create your own combat style as the abilities is extensive and interconnected (I played a mage who shoots muskets and drops grenades/traps, for reference). My only complain is that on higher difficulties, the companions die too easily and on boss fights you are essentially on your own.

Pretty solid game
I picked this up to have something new to play during home quarantine. I have to say that the story was very well written. The game itself needs some polish, but for a new studio, this is quite good. The game plays very much like something you'd expect from the Risen series. Anyway, if you enjoy a well-written story for an RPG and don't require an open-world style system, you should enjoy this one.

Surprised me in the wrong way
I rarely bother to do reviews, but i do read a lot of them here on GOG as the reviewers tend to be a much better educated lot certainly better than the trolls you find on the much hated and now failing Steam. I actually had Greedfall in my "wishlist" for sometime, waiting for it to come to its senses and go sub £25. After reading several others saying the UI and control system was a pain to use, i did hesitate, for a few months longer, then GOG being the great and generous guys that they are (Again unlike the much hated Steam) Reduced it to under £25 so one lonely afternoon i clicked on Buy and after a 4 hour download (my pathetic Broadband's fault not GOG) I started to play. Ok so the now expected great graphics and cutscenes start, but after half an hour of monotonous combat (very basic and repetitive) and a cringingly boring storyline (all been done before) I was compelled to contact GOG for only the second time in 6 years and ask for a Full Refund! that's how boring and basic I found this "Game" I did play for 2 hours to give it a chance in the hope of something new and interesting turning up, but after 2 1/2 hours i found myself playing Skyrim to get a fix etc. To GOG's eternal credit they refunded without hesitation (game makers beware) and i elected to have the refund sent into GOGs great wallet fund system, as none of this is their fault of course and i want GOG to continue to grow and thrive, proving their Philosophy Works, and Good triumphs over Evil (did i mention how much i hated the much hated steam?)
