Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers

Absolutely essential adventure game with an amazing story and (mostly) logical puzzle design. Just be warned that GOG's description for this game has some significant spoilers. This one is best approached knowing as little as possible. Like others have said there are some pops in the audio that can be mitigated somewhat with tweaks to sound settings, but unfortunately I wasn't able to get rid of them completely. Eventually I got used to it, but it's worth pointing out. Overall I greatly enjoyed this game, and highly recommend it even if you're new to the series like me.

I simply love this game. The setting is vivid and unusual and creates a wonderful atmosphere. The tone is very much adult, like a serious horror film or novel. There is love, violence, unexpected events, and much more. Some of the puzzles are unbelievably hard, and I do not know if you could find them out without the help of a walkthrough. But the story and places make up for it tenfold.

Couple weeks ago I was complaining to my friends about not being able to pick up Gabriel Knight 1 talkie version anywhere. I really wanted to dive into the story again, but I couldn't find it. I browsed GoG in search for it but to no avail. Imagine my surprise when I got the mail saying that they added it to catalogue! Great story, deep, rich world and amazingly written characters (with wonderful voice acting). The feel of mythical New Orlean is incredible, and any fan of occult investigations (hello, Hellblazer fans!), will gladly dive into the story. There is only slight problem, as per standard with old Sierra adventure games, keep in mind to keep tons of different save games, because you can get stuck or die. While this is annoying, it's totally overshadowed by quality of the game and with full confidence I award this title with 5 stars, and leave my desk in search of my credit card, so I can buy it :). Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Father is a classic adventure game released by Sierra On-Line in 1993, written by novelist Jane Jensen. While Sierra at the time had an adult oriented adventure game with the Police Quest series, Sins of the Fathers raised the bar for the adventure games of its time. The storyline is filled with mystique, involving ancient Voodoo rituals in the city of New Orleans, and a series of murders in the underworld. The voice acting is exceptional for its time, featuring the voice talents of actors such as Tim Curry (Knight), Mark Hamill (Mosely), Michael Dorn (Dr. John) and many others. Like a good book that's hard to put down once you start reading it, Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers is a game that is incredibly hard to stop playing once you've started. I highly recommend it to fans of point and click adventure games, or people who like a good Thriller/Mystery story.

Years ago, my wife and I were looking for a new game. We saw this at the Babbages. On the back of the box was an ad that stated "For The First Time We Have Experienced REAL Fear Playing A Computer Game". We though "naaaahhhhh, but it probably means it was good." The truth is that we both played the game, got the you know what scared out of us. This game gave me the same rush that I got playing Quake the first time some of the monsters would jump out at you. Be SURE and play the music... They did a masterful job of setting the tone. If you like horror - this is the game for you If you like mystery - this is the game for you GOOD STUFF -- Now bring on the sequel(s)
