Gabriel Knight 2: The Beast Within

Eigentlich ist der zweite Teil der "Gabriel Knight"-Reihe vergleichbar mit Dinner for One oder 3 Nüsse für Aschenbrödel... einmal im Jahr brauchen viele Menschen diese eine besondere Kult-Trash-Injektion. Und bei mir ist das Gabriel Knight 2. Ob es der bayrische Dialekt ist, oder die völlige schauspielerische Talentfreiheit einiger Darsteller inklusive dem von Gabriel - Es gibt so viel zu lachen und zu schmunzeln. Ohne Nostalgiebrille sicherlich ein Risiko-Kauf, außer man plant eine abendliche Spielrunde mit Freunden zusammen... Ob mit oder ohne Alkohol, die Brüller und Lacher sind garantiert.

Brilliant game. Very enjoyable story-line which can be very creepy on occasions. This game has the perfect balance as the puzzles are difficult enough to make it challenging and so that you don't complete the game in the space of a weekend but not hard enough so that you are stuck at a certain point for months! If you like this game you will probably like Phantasmagoria as it is very similar in genre/graphics/game-play.

This game is terrible. It's so poor compared to the first one, you'll wonder if they're part of the same series. Voice acting is terrible and the recording seems to have different tones for some reason. The FMV haven't age well at all, they're a mess. The UI looks like it has been done in 2 minutes in MS Paint. I don't get it, how could this game be so low standard after the first one which was one of the best adventure game i've ever played ? I'm guessing they just used all their budget on filming and actors instead of having a real developing team... If you liked GK1, don't play this one, it's a poor mess. If you like FMV...well go ahead, you might like it.

Coming off of Sins of the Fathers I was apprehensive about the switch to FMV and the replacement of Tim Curry with Dean Erickson as Gabriel Knight. To my surprise, I was won over on both accounts. The switch to FMV allowed for a better connection to the historical elements, exploring real locations and interacting with real people added a believable quality. Incomparable to anything I've played before. The expanded role of Gabriel's assistant Grace from the previous game was a welcome addition. Having the chance to play as her and diving into all the historical lore of the story was a real treat. This game will definitely make you want to visit Germany at some point in your life. The handling of the werewolf material here is well done. The philosophy established for it goes far above what is normally expected from the topic in the world of video games, and allows for The Beast Within to easily secure its place as the best werewolf video games out there.
