Freespace 2

Call me when its $5, not 9.99.

Read the reviews and was expecting something great for a space sim game. I was disappointed. The graphics were worse than Freespace and the gameplay and missions weren't any different or improved at all. This ended up being more of a rehash of Freespace and nothing more. Good thing i didn't have to pay much for this or i'd actually be mad about it. Back to Freelancer and Mechwarrior.

Bear in mind that this game was released in 1999... it was and may still be a truly awesome game. Right off the bat, let's get it out of the way, gog has done it dirty bacause Freespace 2 has been freeware for many years now (try fsoinstaller dot com). That said, this version deserves 0 stars because not only does it NOT WORK it actually wrecked my gog galaxy installation somehow. Compatibility modes, turn this on, that off, yell at it - nope. No work. And then Galaxy stopped working so bad not even a fresh install got it functional so 'Dear GOG, you've really screwed this up in every way possible'. (eventually got galaxy to work again, can't remember how though.) 2 stars just for keeping awareness of this legendary title alive though.

The game doesn't work on Windows 10.

You can only move forward, not backwards, not side to side, not up or down. I know there is a "cheat" to enable Descent Mode which allows all that movement, but then that doesn't allow going forward as fast. And rotating also banks, wtf? I got the source code for this game and found where it banks while turning, disabled that, and rebuilt it - now turning just turns, and if I want to bank I'll do so myself, thank you very much. Now I'm trying to enable side to side movement without killing the max forward velocity. I'm sure this is possible, but for now I can't see how people can play this game.
