Not ready for prime time
Ambitious game, beautiful design, but riddled with bugs. I'd say pathfinding is easily the worst offender, with toons walking around the map twice just to find the food stall they work at, so they can buy food, only to find out that in the meantime, all has been bought up and now they're left to starve, complain, and leave. Then there's the building mode – ambitious and promising, but without a way to either adjust the terrain before building, or adjust the heights of the buildings in a more seamless way, anyone looking for symmetry will tear out their hair in despair. Missing localisation strings (in English... #MANDATE_IS_IN_PROGRESS) are just some of the other minor issues; I mean, there was a big "release" out of "early access", but the game still feels like before, or even worse in places; for example, there was a fully dynamic weather system with droughts and storm seasons that has been taken out with a button to manually select the lighting mood as a "replacement". Animations that are missing and have been promised for years are still teased as "yeah, we will put that in eventually" – who is going to care if it takes yet another five years? Just for disclosure, I do own the game and have played over 600 hours "on that other platform" because of their superior Linux integration – I just can't be bothered to manually set up Wine for the gazillionth time. That said, it runs fine on Proton, with a couple of quirks like missing overlays; but nobody's going to notice those few more among the plentitude of other, more serious shortcomings. I'd love to give a more positive review, but in the state it is now, I just cannot.
Hilft dir das weiter?
