20 yrs on, the physics is still rubbish.
Sure, this is a "classic" game, but it also suffers from the "classic" failings of its era. Nearly two decades on from its first release, the graphics still hold up surprisingly well, the basic gameplay still holds up surprisingly well, and the "stunt" games still ... are annoying as hell. But the physics. Oh, where do I start? I guess the worst of it is the irritation factor. You see an opponent (NPC) car fly straight through a massive tree trunk as though it's a wet tissue, but then you hit a cardboard box and get flung 30 feet in the air with a triple barrel roll. You hit your nitro boost, but an UNboosted opponent breezes past you like you've got your foot on the brake. Opponent vehicles have no trouble at all nudging you out of the way, but if you try the same move the opponent car just welds itself across the front of yours. Everything seems like it's skewed towards making the game difficult merely by virtue of applying handicapping physics to only you, the player. It just seems like instead of presenting a challenge based on ALL cars behaving with the same rules, the devs simply biased the system to make it artificially difficult. And it's irritating as hell. What could - and should - have been a true classic becomes something that you'll play for 15-20 minutes then walk away from in frustration.
Hilft dir das weiter?
