Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition

Played fine for many hours then windows update and all I get is Performance and security issues with windows now. Will not run and no update that I can find to fix it. Very sad.

GOG is amazing. They have a version of Fallout 3 that does not freeze, crash or lag which the Steam version has. Other than that, this game is what defines open world games for me. The map is huge, your choices matter very heavily and you can do some downright insane things (like eating a baby) too if you want. If you ever need a game that will suck dozens of hours of your life away, look no further than this.

As a big fan of the Fallout universe I consider this one of the greatest games in the series. Many hours were plowed into this game with joy. When the game was first released the experience were quite buggy, it took almost half a year until most of the buggyness had been patched away, but after that; life was good! The original story is a bit short, but that's about as much negativity I have to say about the game itself. There are countless mods to further help you enhance this game. Needless to say, when you buy this game you actually buy the key to a Fallout-funbox. And if you are familiar with the older Fallout games in the series (which I still think are the best tbh.) I dare say that you will not be disappointed to relive the wasteland in 3D. I mean, even the game trailers are freakin' awesome! Right?! The only real pain to be told about this game -a pain which I cannot wish upon any game no matter the quality- was the nightmare of all nightmares, namely: >>Games for Windows Live<< That vile abomination bestowed upon this otherwise great game is something that I for one can never forgive or forget. Bethesda what were you thinking??? On Steam the game simply would not start at all unless you had the GFWL-client installed, no error message to point you in that direction either. Once the client had been installed there were like 20 or so subsequent patches for the client to be installed, many of which required the computer to reboot... The most evil thing about it was that you did not even have to log in to that piece of junk once it was updated and ready to go. It was a requirement to start the game but totally needless once the game was started. Lucky are the ones that can now get it here and play it the way it was meant to be played. Bought the game here as soon as I could, no more GFWL-Steam bullshit for me. So thank you GOG.com, for finally setting this game free from it's DRM shackles. It really deserves it. We -the gamers- really deserve it! So enjoy!!

As the title say. Bethesda knew how dangerous taking over Fallout was. They took every sprite of Fallout 1 & 2 and recreated them faithfully for F3. But even if you make something look like a cookie, that doesn't mean it will taste good It is not an utter disaster. It is just that everything is bland. Bethesda added their own thing to Fallout. The same thing they add everywhere. Their love for blandness -Kms of subway. After some time you just KNOW there will be ghouls. You never run short of hallways with ghouls -A building. Obviously it is a factory of sorts with mad robots inside. Again -Someone ahead. Ah not a local, merely the 15985469 raider of the week -lvl 25 All the fauna and population disappear to give place to level scaled crap that was meant to be rare. Everywhere -Once you destroy the Enclave and reach a decent lvl you will start to encounter enclave soldiers ALL THE TIME The quests are grade school level. Bethesda decided that choice in a RPG mattered (indeed). That being mature did too, but they couldn't bring the usual shallow edginess others use by adding sex or make children killable, because PEGI. So instead, Fallout HAD to give a chance to nuke a town. Randomly. Just because evil. With nothing to ground your character. Wasteland 2 adds this option too but it bears a heavy meaning for Roleplay purposes. Not with F3. But this is worse than that. The main quest is the dumbest, lamest thing i ever saw in a RPG. Daddy left, i miss daddy, let's run after daddy. Oh ! here is Daddy >>> main quest completed. Here is your achievement boy ! OMG Bethesda recreated an environment that looked like Fallout but failed to make anything with it. They used brands of the Fallout universe, like Nuka-Coca of the Brotherhood, with no purpose. They don't get that what matters in a RPG is how the world feels and lives. Everything they put in this shell of a world is meaningless, senseless, tasteless and disjointed. The world doesn't work. Fallout 3 looks like it wants to be an immersive sim but Bethesda is there saying "not on my watch", which means, Fallout 3 is not an RPG. Probably, FO3's best pro is the atmosphere, how it is visually achieved, it looks like a western with fantasy vibe. I love it. The game might be old, even the graphics but the deep visuals are still strong. I also never complied with the green tint. My problem with this game is of other nature: - Moira Brown wants you to go to the Tepid Sewers to kill a bunch of mole rats with a wood stick of hers. The tepid sewers is not a dangerous path, but it is a not an easy one for a beginner because it is close to D.C. That dungeon only serves for that purpose, this quest. You do that quest and come back and so on. But then you keep playing and playing and then... Woooww! Your Pip Boy says you stepped into a new random place near Megaton. It is called Jury Street Metro. You go in the sewers and you see an interesting amount of mole rats and a thing to make food with wonderglue. There are so many of them you could have done the quest in an easier way, but the game somehow does not want you to explore or wants to tell you that. This situation almost made me look away in "some" way, but it does not mean that I hate the game. This said, the imm-sim part of the game could have been better, above all when I have played other games worth its genre. I miss more interaction with world objects. Everytime I think about it, I see those empty barrels that you find everywhere in the wastes and I miss situations where you can them more ofter. I only use them in two situations: by entering the mayor/sheriff house from the roof (you need a barrel), and there are some lorries with ammunition where you need a barrel so you can jump there. I have explored all the map and played all the DLCs. I have played Fallout 1 and 2 after having played this. And I also think, during my playthroughs, that this is a wasteland worth hundreds of hours.
