Empire Earth 2 Gold Edition

I had it for many years in its "free" version (if you know what I mean haha), but recently I bought a computer so I decided to buy the game as well to start doing the right thing: this game really deserves it ;) Please note that it is a bit old game (2005) and it works with DirectX 8, that is why it comes pre-packaged by GoG to run in windowed mode: getting it to work in full screen on Windows 10 can be really complicated and It requires some knowledge so don't leave negative reviews on the game just for that! If you want to enjoy the game in full screen and add support for your NVIDIA graphics card without complicating your life, what you should do is download the "unofficial" patch (search for it in Google) or download a DirectX wrapper and make the corrections manually.

I spent allot of time playing Empire earth one and two. Two had a good concept but failed on the epochs. For instance Dark Age is too medival while Middle ages is too renasance. You see this recuring theme allot in Empire earth II. Its pretty clear they had the right idea, but not the time to implement it completely like they did with Empire earth one. Still solid concept, just not finished.

Empire Earth 2 is an amazing RTS and definitely among the greatest of all time. Whilst I would not say it is as good as the original Empire Earth, it is not that far off. The scope of Empire Earth 2 is smaller in terms of epochs/eras as well as units, but there is more detail per eras/epochs as well as units and overall a bit more depth to the strategy options. It is still a masterpiece of an RTS though and easily in the top ten ever made for me. If you love Empire Earth, Age Of Empires, Rise Of Nations and the like then you will definitely love Empire Earth 2. Just steer clear of Empire Earth 3, what a disaster.

Probably one of the best timeless game of all time in RTS and Strategy genre, improved with high res and stability mod this game can give you endless replayability.

Perhaps this is an impartial review, regardless this was a hell of a game that I spent the better part of my teens playing along with crusader and red alert 2. When I got this game it seemed like it was really pushing the envelope of gaming, because this was the first game I got when we upgraded the family computer in fact this was the first game installed on it. This has a fairly robust system of territories and control over them and In my opinion a satisfying amount of micro-to-macro managing when it comes to resource gathering and and army building. The battles are enjoyable and with a little planning using army, navy and air power to coordinate and decimate your enemy, incredibly gratifying. All in all this is a solid game that holds through the test of time.
