This is the last of the city-builder series made by sierra. It's the perfect fusion between the complexity of caesar 3, some new mechanics from Pharaon and Zeus, and a new polish and congruent graphics. Perfect setting, like ancient rome, greece and Egypt.

This game is a real treat for fans of the entire series (Zeus + Poseidon, Pharaoh + Cleopatra, Caesar 3). The creators did a lot of research on ancient China and it shows; the overall aesthetic and look of the game looks great. A minor quirk that really shouldn't affect gameplay, but the voice acting did not age well (over-exaggerated 'Chinese' accents, yikes) and the graphics and portraits aren't great.
Just a quick note here since it seems to be a fairly common problem with no surefire solution: if the building animations don't load, you need to update the graphics driver manually.
1) In the search box on the taskbar, enter device manager, then select Device Manager.
2) Select Display Adaptors to display the names of your graphics drivers. Mine is NVIDIA but yours may differ.
3) Make a note of the driver's name, and search for the driver update on the manufacturer's website. Ensure you get the correct update for your driver
4) Download and run the .exe file, you may need to restart Windows afterwards

I think the gameplay and graphics are the best out of the whole series, and they did such a great job with the illustrations of those buildings and scenery. Building cities, managing the inhabitants, keeping everything going smoothly - so much fun to work it all out!
These games are great too - because I have a gaming desktop which handles modern 3D games no problem, but my laptop is more for things like word processing. However, if I'm off somewhere with just the laptop and need a break, games like this one that run in 2D sprites and tiles will work great on just about anything! So there's I quite enjoy high quality 2D games like Emperor.
Years ago I lost my CD. Disaster! I have been waiting for a digital way to play this game for so long, fantastic!
Im from a time where I played a little of Ceaser 3, Zeus and a lot Pharaoh. Those where great times and still is because a I love this games so muuuuuch!
Still, I din't know about the existence of this game and is absoluty stunning! Perfect gameplay as I am used with other tittles! This is really a "PERFECT CLASSIC GEM"!
I found this game 2002 on a magazine CD - the complete tutorial. Then I bought the disk and played it until I switched to iMac in 2007. Then I learned how to install Windows XP on the iMac using bootcamp and went on playing Emperor until Microsoft did something to block XP - I was very sad. Joy, joy, joy with GOG wineskin I have it back on my iMac. And it is even more comfortable because one does not have to insert a disk every time one want's to play it.
The fascinating thing is that this game is so rich in variations that it never becomes boring and after 15 years of continuous use there are still lots of possibilities I have not tried yet.
It is creative, constructive and besides from some small skirmishes not at all bloodthirsty. But it teaches a lot about Chinese history and culture which isn't bad to know.
Thank you for not allowing this game to disappear.
