You can just smell the early 2000s

So, the game comes with 6 tables that vary in quality and content. Some like "Knight Tournament" table are pretty unique with both layout and graphics, and fast paced. Some unfortunately lack some depth like "Monsters" or "Aquatic". There are also tacky aspects to the game, mainly the sound design. The narrations or voices that emit from the machine to notify you of your ball being saved or bonus points can seem a bit old fashioned, however I think this contributes to the charm. The ambient around you makes you feel like you're in a bar which makes the game feel more shovelware-ish. One cool thing to note though, is the 7 camera angles that you can toggle while playing, 3 of which follow the ball (at different distances), making for more interesting gameplay at times. All in all, it's not a bad simulation. It's realistic enough, interesting and fun. It has that stale charm covered in overall good gameplay as well as variety. I have read some of the other reviews and they either not played all of the tables trough or are expecting a Pro Pinball level of simulation, which is on par with the real deal with accurate physics and dot matrix mini games which you won't be getting in with title, but it doesn't make Dream Pinball bad. It doesn't seem like the intense realism was ever the focus. It's worth giving a shot when it's on sale at least.

Not awful, but not very good, either

Dream Pinball 3D is a game that I own on 3 different platforms. It's not because the game is good, it's because I'm a lunatic for pinball sims and will play them in pretty much any form they exist. Dream Pinball offers six tables but you'd hardly know it based on the tables themselves. All of them are exceedingly similar in design which is a problem given that the core design of them isn't very compelling. If you're familiar with actual pinball tables, such as those featured in the incredible "Pinball Arcade" collection, also known as Pinball Hall of Fame in earlier iterations, then you'll realize immediately that these tables aren't designed with real pinball in mind - no thoughtfully made pinball table is designed like these. There is very little "flow" to the tables, the copious amount of extra flippers are often located in areas that merely send the ball into a wall of bumpers, and many of them are too hidden to reliably make use of them. Despite designed to look like a modern, complex table, all six Dream Pinball tables play like older tables in that you're basically just slapping at targets except without the rhyme or reason that even classic tables featured. Timed modes exist and every table includes Multiball, but these modes lack purpose. Ordinarily Multiball is accompanied by a jackpot shot usually on a ramp but that doesn't appear to be the case here for the most part. In fact, I recall a table, the one called "Monsters," where you're urged to shoot 3 spot targets during multiball for a reward of 1 Million points. Problem is, those same targets actually offer significantly more points if completed during single-ball play. What's the point? If you're like me and just want pinball - ANY pinball - then it might offer serviceable play for you but I can't sit here and tell you that the tables are especially exciting. Their relatively lifeless pinball tables that don't compel you to really take your time to learn the table and come to master it.

Best Pinball on Gog so far!

The six tables are all really nice, every one of them, and they are also quiet different towards each other. They all play fun. The ball seems quiet sensitive to me, not sure how realistic the physics are, but, as said, it plays fun. The Soundtrack and the soundeffects are really great, also the look of the table is very nice, up to date you can say. The tables are: medieval, monster, aqua, amber moon (rpg style, rotating something/helicopter and dinosaur. my favorits are monster, amber moon, medieval and, well, aqua and dino. :) I could not get the game to run on my netbook with win7starter 32bit. But it could also be the netbook would also net be able to play it at a sufficent framerate if it would work (bevore it crashes i get a message about a very slow cpu detected, but the crash seem related differently - maybe the forum will help further). Then I encountered difficult on my big pc cause of the use of an 2. monitor, an extendet desktop to a videobeamer. Setting the 2. monitordevice to off solved the problem and the game runs smooth and all. ah, and i have win7pro, 64bit there, with an aticard. These problems may be related only to my configuration or system. Don`t want to generalize.. Despite this, lets say, difficultys i gice the game 5 stars because it is a really great pinball game, the tables are great, gameplay as well, sound too, and so on - I`m very happy to have it. And 6usd seems a fair price, better then 10usd :) I would say this is an arcade must buy for everyone! Btw., for netbooks i recomand Pro Pinball - Fantastic Journey, just one table, but works, looks and plays good! Not all Pro Pinballs work that well on netbooks as i reed in the forum. Wish you much fun!

Wow, very nice addition!

If you're into computer pinball, this is a fantastic game at a fantastic price. I had played this on a friend's system a couple of years ago (2008 maybe) and I was very impressed with this game. I just bought it and I have to say that I'm not at all disappointed. Considering the other choices for pinball on GOG, I'd have to say this is the best among them. The physics seem very good to me and the options for play and appearance are very current. This may be an old game but it's not very old at all and looks beautiful on current systems. Additionally, for $6, you're just not going to get any pinball that's more fun and more visually appealing. Buy this now. It's what you've been waiting for gog.com to get in the way of pinball. Trust me. ;-)

It's fine, but that's it

Pretty ok pinball game. The physics are not super realistic, but they feel good. Graphics and music are of good enough fidelity, but not very inspired in terms of artistry. It's got some good difficulty and high score features and a handful tables to play. As such, it's actually pretty fun if you love pinball. The only real problem is that the board designs are a bit aimless and messy in terms of gameplay and lanes can feel kind of awkward to hit sometimes. The boards look like there's a lot going on, but they aren't as deep as it would seem at first. If you don't expect too much, it's pretty fun. Some people say it's buggy, but it works fine on my Win 10 laptop, except for an occasional sound glitch on the horror themed board. Buy it if it's discounted and you're a real pinball geek. Otherwise, probably don't bother. Play all the classics first if you haven't already.
