Good game, but abandoned by devs on gog

Loved its more action oriented casual Dragon Age like gameplay, using custom followers from other peoples games and your own main custom follower. Until i found out the online features only partially work. Seems like if you want to fully experience the online system you shouldnt buy the gog version. Which involves a way to earn currency which can effect what you can do/buy in single player. Still a good game without it, but it feels bad man.

Honestly, just get this one

Alot of people are going to be interested in this title due to the release of the sequel being the current flavor of the month in the gaming world, and, to be honest, the first game is superior in many ways. First off, Dragon's Dogma 2 is more a remake than direct sequel. And while it certainly has more dynamic combat and open-world events, that currently comes at the cost of some truly horrendous optimization. If you don't care about graphics (and most people buying the game on GOG won't), you may find trading modern graphics for PS3-era ones with no frame dips whatsoever a great trade-off. Beyond that, the enemy variety (while never a strong suite of the series) is greater here, and it already has it's end-game DLC, and all the microtransaction nonsense already integrated into the game. Again, it depends on what you want. But there is actually very little difference between the two games. Dragon's Dogma is a unique type of ARPG and both games are doing the same thing. It just so happens that this one can be had for $5.00 when on sale, with no anti-cheat and crap optimization taxing your system. Personal choice, no right answer, but Dark Arisen has many points in it's favor over the sequel.

Could've been great

This game is solid. Very solid. But it falls short in key areas and ultimately falls well short of the title of "great game". This is a third person action RPG with a semi-open world and very light choice elements. Pros: + Highly detailed character creation + Excellent boss fights + Good array of moves and spells + Some fun exploration + Atmospheric dungeons +Awesome monsters Cons: - Weak voice acting - Weak, uninteresting story - Boring characters - Repetitive encounters - Tedious loot system - Somewhat bland outdoor environments

Missing features

Dragon's Dogma is a typical case of a "cult classic." The game has a lot of objective issues and is very barebones in some ways (story, dialogue, most quests) but its core gameplay is so good and there's so much magic in it that fans are willing to forgive it anything. Fighting a dragon or griffin in DD is simply so good that it will spoil you on other action RPGs, empty world and boring NPCs be damned. I absolutely love this game and have way over 500 hours clocked into it across various platforms, since its first release on the consoles. And I can heartfully recommend the PC version as the best one thanks to 60fps and mod availability. With that said, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME ON GOG if you have the option to buy it elsewhere. The online features don't work - the companion rental system gives no rewards. This bug was present in the Steam release too, but was fixed right after launch - clearly nobody cares to do the same here. Perhaps an even more baffling thing - the photo mode was CUT from the game entirely. It's there on Steam, but the button is gone in the gog version. It's a minor feature, but still - this is an incomplete version of the game and there's NO info about it on the store page anywhere. There are also very few companions to choose from (due to gog having separate servers and a small playerbase, especially now years after release), but that's nobody's fault tbh. I feel bad telling people not to buy one of my all-time favourite games on my platform of choice, but it is what it is. The game is 5 stars for me (despite all its problems), but I can't recommend this release.

Big Heads Up

This game is actually fun, i had played it on steam years ago, and bought it again on gog. I forgot why i stopped playing this game originally, and it was a hell of a reason: There is 1 save game slot, it WILL randomly get corrupted. It will not be recoverable. You will lose absolutely everything and there is nothing you can do to save it. In my opinion, it would have been better to never play this in the first place. Your luck might vary, i would rather amputate my hands instead of playing this again.
