Should defently try if never expirienced, and come back if did it sometime ago

Came back to play this again in 2025, the big sale was much appreciated.

I used to be an exclusively Steam user. Because of that, I had given up on ever playing this game again, since the Steam version is 100% unplayable. On a hunch, I checked it out here on GOG, saw that it had been updated, repeatedly and recently, and decided to give it a chance. Best decision I've made in quite some time. It runs great. No issues so far, and when I complete this playthrough, I'm going to try modding it. Whether you are a fan of this game from when it came out, or just started with the more recent Dragon Age games, this is a must have.

Ok, OK, it is not BG2, but nothing is or will be. This certainly comes damn close. It is like, somehow, DA:O became this gem... near perfect. Sure some think the graphics could be better, and the gameplay is a tad shy of great. i wish there were a few more class options, but they are fine as is. But all the pieces fit together perfectly. I love the characters, the voice acting, the story. It both fulfills and subverts high fantasy. Dragon Age Awakening never quite fulfilled the promise of DA:O. To me the first game with its in game DLC are perfect. The out of game DLC, the expansion ,and the sequels to me all for short. If you want old school RPG in a modern format, it doesn't get better than this. Buy it, play it, play it again, then play it again a few years later.
