A great port of a great game...
Back in the 90s I had a PlayStation. Yes, the PSX port of Doom was great and a unique experience, but... Doom 64 brought the classic gameplay to a whole new level. Outsourced by ID Software to Midway, a fresh experience was developed that kept the basic gameplay intact, but with an even darker atmosphere and more puzzle elements and secrets. Great level designs, atmospheric sounds and music, redesigned and new enemy and weapon types... The true sequel to Doom II. This is a great PC port with support for modern controllers, high redolutions, an uncapped framerate and much more, while keeping the look and feel of its console counterpart intact. It even runs pretty good on my old potato PC. Smooth 60 FPS on an old Core i3 @ 2,8GHz with 4GB RAM and onboard Intel HD 4400 graphics (128MB) using the OpenGL renderer. Grab it! There is a fan made patch out there that restores the assets to match the original N64 release. Just in case you want to go full "vanilla".

If you buy it at discounted price
... than it is totally worth it. This is an old, originally Nintendo 64 exclusive game with updated graphics engine and modernized control sheme (work great with keyboard + mouse combo too). The look and feel is good, horror aspect, the sound and ambient etc. is spot on. Playing on the following configuration: AMD Ryzen 1600AF, 16 GB RAM, Geforce 1030GT, 480 GB SATA, Windows 10 Home 64-bit 21H2.

Doom 2's sequel on the N64
Doom 64 is a direct follow-up from Doom 2 story wise and mechanically feels much like Doom 2; however, Doom 64 deviates from Doom and Doom 2 by playing with darker environments, an ambient horror-like soundtrack, and more focus on the story of the Doom Marine after the events of Doom 64. Does this all work? Gameplay: overall fairly good, the rewards for secret hunting are definitely much better than in Doom and Doom 2 since you'll get a pretty overpowered late-game weapon out of being a completionist; however, I really wish Doom 64 kept the par-time system since it motivated mastery of the game's levels and mechanics if you wanted to be below par. Weapons here are also pretty good, though the shotgun and super shotgun will be carrying you for most of the game alongside the chaingun, cell-based weapons are much much less viable unfortunately but that does make them feel meatier and powerful. New monsters are a bit of a letdown and some enemies such as revenants do not appear at all, which is a shame since they'd play nicely with the level design. Graphics/sound design: I am very mixed in this area, on one hand Midway did a great job with some enemy and weapon sprites but weapons such as the shotgun and super shotgun have very unsatisfying weapon animations so they just don't feel as punchy. Darker environments are nice too, but you might need to turn up your gamma to see in some levels. Sound design is however fantastic across the board, weapons have a satisfying click to them, monsters are easy to id by sound, and the soundtrack isn't in your face (think like the PS1 Doom port, it's much the same soundtrack wise). Level design: mixed again, some really great levels but since 64 introduces some puzzles like those in Hexen/Heretic, it's easy to sometimes get lost in levels or find all the secrets. Overall I'd say Doom 64 is a good sequel if not a little flawed at points. (Plenty of ports out there, the copy here is on KEX but Doom64 EX Plus is worth a look too)

Solid game
I played the original version of this game on Nintendo 64. Coming to it on Switch, then PC it was a fabulous version of the game. Using clever elements to trick the eye in textual elements. If you never played this before, its worth the full price, then this introductory price of $1.24!
