Exceptional Doomage!

Been waiting for this to come to GOG for a while.. Better late than never, right?! I will echo the sentiments stated by others: This is an exceptional entry into the Doom series! One can't go wrong with this game. The controls are as exact and customizable as one would expect and the GFX, sound & world design are top tier! As of the writing of this review, this game is 8 years old, but if you didn't know that fact, you could be forgiven for thinking is a recent title. It's held up and aged that well! There is enough challenge to test your metal, but not so very much that it will be an unforgiving beat-down. You will have make decent effort to progress through the game, yet you will find a way if you persist! My single complaint is the install size(60+GB). However, when we look at the complexity of the visuals, it is not difficult to understand how much space it took. Still, compression could have been used to good effect here. This is a minor complaint and does not detract from the experience of this masterful game. Just a heads-up if you're short on storage space. Buy it, download, install, play, rock on!!

Bam Bam Bam Fun

I don't want to go into a deep intellectual review that's just describing all the obvious masterful aspects of this game with a lot of words. This gem is just fun to play and makes wasting time a joy. Simple as that. I'm almost 50 years old and played loads of games. I can't tell you how much this game helps me to wind down after a long day. It really does! Metal music + Action = Yoga. Results may vary :) Get it and try for yourself. BAM BAM

So much freaking fun!!

I've never actually played any of the Doom games until now. I've mostly enjoyed them vicariously through lets plays and the like, but I've always wanted to try them, but felt hesitant since I'm really not a hard core gamer. Those feelings were compounded when I tried to play Dusk (a game I was told was fairly similar in concept to Doom 2016) and failed to gel with it. I figured that it was just easier for me to enjoy these sort of fast-paced shooters as a third party rather than playing them. And cut to 2025, and I see Doom available here on GOG. And I figured, if I really still wanted to try it, GOG was the best place to get it. And boy, am I glad I did. Its so different, but also weirdly accessible? I'm currently playing it on the lowest difficult (sorry to the hardcore fans out there), but it feels good and comfortable for me right now, starting out. I've only progressed a few levels (finished Foundry at the time of writing) and I've enjoyed my time immensely. The visuals are spectacular; the combat brutal and the story is also super interesting. For a game that's 9 years old, its holding up amazingly well. I'm having a great time so far. Admittedly, I don't know if it'll keep up with that pace; I hope it will and that I can finish the game, but even if I don't, I still sunk a good four hours so far and I'll keep trying until I hit a wall. If anyone else was like me; feeling uncertain about your skill level and such, don't be. Doom might not hold your hand, but it certainly doesn't just chuck you in the deep end either. Its really, really solid and really, really fun!! And considering how often it discounts super low, there's really no harm in giving it a shot! My only really issue is there seems to be some weird audio bug where the sound doesn't work on my headphones unless I shift up the settings, but its a minor gripe. All in all, I highly recommend (but that's no surprise at all, is it?)
