Some good, some strange design decisions.

This is an rpg in a Fantasy Sword/Magic world where you can make a custom character, black/white/man/woman/ dwarf/ skeleton/ elf/ lizard. You can play fighters, thieves, wizards, etc, but everyone appears to be able to do some magic. I tried to make as dedicated fighter as possible, no magic. But yea, he still can do magic. As usual women do everything just like men, they can`t possibility be different... yawn. Without giving away the plot everyone seems to have this thing against `Sourcerers` a kind of magic, so they get imprisoned. The dialogue is quite indepth and pretty good so far, with some interesting sideplots. In many ways it`s like Baldur`s Gate; you can be nice, neutral or mean. However, the way the dialogue works is very strange. It is in 3rd person ie, "You ask him how to escape the Island!" instead of ," How do I escape the Island?" I don`t understand why they used this 3rd person way of talking, it`s really anti-immersive to me. Half the time I`m not sure if my charatcer is talking about himself or someone else! A mistake in my view. Another thing :they have a Narrator voiced saying all the Narration. Why? It`s completely unnescesarry and a waste of good voice-acting in my view. It can be muted. All npc Followers appear killable. One had such an attitude I killed her then wondered if she was a Follower- which she was! I like that flexibility. It`s kind of nice how you can set each new member`s vocation, they become whatever you want to be - although not very realistic. Combat is confusing at first until you realise you have to whittle down their armour and magic defence before you can really take down an enemy. Some enemies are weird. Wanna attack that Saltwater Crocodile? Well in this world, crocodiles are NOT what you expect them to be! The game does not molly coddle you as much as some- There will be a LOT of trial and error as you learn. Which is nice. It also appears to be quite a big game. I give it a cautious thumbs up.

A masterpiece essential to any RPG Fans

DOS2 deserves a spot in the top 5 cRPG ever made, and simply put, it's most likely my favourite cRPG ever. When I'm old and on my dying bed, I have no doubts that DOS2 will stand there alongside Planescape Torment, Fallout 2, and Baldur's Gate 2, and likely above them all. I even bought it twice, the early access on Steam, and the full release on GoG. This was cheap, and it gave me more content that I could ever dream of for those 30£ I spent. More than 300 hours so far, and counting. I could tell you all of those great things that make DOS2 stands out against the competition, but I'd resume it from the 3 following points : - Outstanding companions : I cannot recall in any party based RPG before that I had such a struggle to pick 3 out of 5 companions. It was heart breaking every single time. They are all very different and you want them around all the time. - Second to none no-class system : DOS2 gives you the feeling you have class when you build your character, before you understand there is no class. Most skills are useful in many fashion so you are fully free to build your character as you want, and you could play 10 times and never do the same. - Awesome tactical combat : DOS2 is easy to understand, hard to master, and there is so many more in those fights than in its brethrens. DOS2 doesn't bombard you of a million stats, everything is nearly binary, yet you'll find yourself so much better as you learn it. It is not to say that DOS2 is perfect. There are some choices which will divide, but thanks to its great mod support, any of the annoyances I once could have had with the games have been alleviated. I'll list a few : - Extreme gear scaling : gear is obsolete every level. Very annoying, somewhat fixed by mods. - Overleveling content is easy : All challenges disappear when you overlevel its content ; fixed by mods - Limited Crafting : fixed by mods - Limited visual customisation : fixed by mods If you like RPG, you MUST have that game, no questions asked

A fantastic game

A really immersive game. Had not played the first, and it took me a while to realize that you can't play as a completionist. You just can't do everything and choices matter. And there are so may choices. The ability to reassign ability points later in the game is also great as you don't have buyer's remorse when levelling up characters. Great music, great gameplay, awesome story. Found the learning curve to be steep, though once you get in the groove of the game and the mechanics, you just want to keep playing. Haven't enjoyed a game so much in years. Great job.

Best Ever

This is the best RPG I have EVER played on the computer. I played it through, and then imediately played it through again with a different character, NPCs, choices, etc. Story, voices, game mechanics, all top notch.

Best game I've played in a while

This review will be from the perspective of someone who hasn't played a turn-based game like this before or any of the previous releases of Divinity. Graphics: 9/10 Running on a 1080ti, I was surpised to see my card running at around 50-70% on maxed graphics for an overhead camera RPG. However, at max graphics, it is very polished. From high-quality detail, to various mechanics of tress blowing in the wind and elmental effects, I have no complaints. Audio: 10/10 The voice acting, sound effects, ambient sounds, absolutely AMAZING! Casting spells never get old as they all are filled with a sense of power. Gameplay: 8/10 This is by-far, the hardest to rate as this game is immensly in-dept. The story-line is top-notch, the various characters have quests/storylines that are tailored to them, and the quests are very in-depth to a level of the Witcher 3. While Devinity gives you ultimate freedom of completing your quests (everything from agreeing to the quest or just killing anyone you want), that's unfortuantely where I found it could have room for improvement. Because there's so much freedom, you might find yourself unknowingly wondering into an area well-above what you can handle or an area you were meant to be several levels ago. Both are equally frustrating as you get destroyed in the former and receive subpar loot in the latter. This is exacerbated by NPCs giving you quests that don't always pinpoint where you have to go. You might be told to find a certain character/location or perform an action to progress the quest, but aren't told exactly where to go. Thankfully, most of the time you're provided a specific spot on the map, but I was frustrated more than once because I wasn't sure where to go. Overall, it is incrediablly refreshing to see such an in-depth single-player game with 100+ hours of gameplay and superb replay value due to the various characters, quests-changing, and various builds you can do.
