Blast from the past!
I got this game for the first time from a gaming magazine that was quite popular back in the day. The younger me from the late '90s had no idea that Dink Smallwood was such a humorous game and apparently a parody of Zelda. I always thought it was a serious RPG, especially with those really creepy monsters, and I was actually a little bit scared of it. Still, as a kid, I had no idea how to make any progress, so I found my own way to enjoy the game by using the editor! I was removing walls, trees, and other stuff just to see what lay ahead. Fun times. Now, many years later, I'm no longer using the editor and I'm trying to honestly beat the game. I'm really happy that the game was released here on GOG, for free. I had no idea there were so many people who are fond of this title, and even more who are still playing it <3

I love this game, but let's be honest.
I first played this game on my windows 95 pc probably around the year 99. I have intensely large nostolgia for it. It's funny, it's charming as hell, and at the time of it's release it was a really large outlier in indie game development. The community also really rallied around it, creating custom modules and being active in it's fandom. A outcome that seems to persist to this day albeit to a lesser extent. But the game aged pretty hard. The controls aren't great, the graphics definitely have their charm but it can be frustrating to navigate the game by modern standards. And while I enjoyed the hell out of the story as a kid, as an adult with a more critical eye it is very shallow and lacking in a lot of areas. If you sat down most modern kids in front of this title with no context or explanation they wouldn't have great things to say about it, and that's ok. It was amazing in context of it's year of release, and those of us who played it even a few years later perhaps, can still go back and enjoy a high quality little funny game that really entertained us all those years ago. As it stands, I recommend this game to those who enjoy action rpg games, and I genuinely love it as a part of my childhood. But to say it's worthy of a perfect 5 stars is a stretch. It's a wonderful game. It's worth playing. It's not without it's faults. But at the end of the day, maybe some of those faults just make it more charming. Worth remembering. Not perfect. Don't punch your mother you monster.

Masochistic Duck Worship
I first laid my innocent eyes on this game in 1998, when I found a demo version of it on a CD added to a gaming magazine I was buying. The game was confusing, weird, and I had no idea what I was doing. I fisted a village girl to death, deleted the game, but never forgot. Dink Smallwood was always in the back of my mind. Now this game can be a little bit confusing when you begin playing it. I'm guilty of getting stuck once myself, and having to resort to an online guide to pass the obstacle. The part I was stuck on proved to be obvious, and I was just a massive cretin for not realising how to solve the problem. Combat is really simple. You run at the enemy, slap them once, and run away before they can slap you back. Repeat until one of you is dead. Later on you get spells, and even a bow, which is tricky to use, but can deal a lot of damage in one shot. The game works on Windows 10 without any issues, at least I haven't experienced any. For the "yes we do have phones" gang, there is an official Android port, also priced at the steep cost of free. By the way, the title of the review... That's not a joke.
