I never got to play the OG Diablo much until this GOG release. I ADORE Diablo 2, and spent a good amount of time with 3, so the moment 1 was added to GOG, YOINK, I wanted that. Full glad I am that I did, because I was definitely surprised at how well this game holds up! Sure its slow, as you can only walk everywhere. But everything else about the game just... works. Its fun to explore the dungeons and kill monsters. The game is challenging, but not brutally so (unless you get unlucky and need to kill the Butcher as your first quest..). Gear is varied and always exciting to find. The game has few of its own bit oldschool mechanics, like certain enemies who permanently lower your max HP when they hit you, but nothing is so egregious that it would take away from the overall experience. Its a pretty bite-sized dungeon exploration game too, in my 17 hours of playing this game i've beaten it twice. You can almost think of it as a roguelike, in a way. Just good fun to play in small dozes.

A classic and godfather to action RPGs. Honestly this is a direct port that has it running on modern hardware. A game I think everyone should try at least once, this GOG is the prefect collectors item.

You'll read plenty of reviews on here saying the game is old janky. Those reviews are accurate! HOWEVER! The nostalgia of the sights and sounds and atmosphere of the game are all still there and quite comfy to be in again. What I'm finding out just now since I originally had the game on PS1 is you can play this entirely with just the mouse! So despite the difficulty (I'm not getting enough gold to spend on potions, etc), the game is, dare I say, casual? Time from loading up the game to playing is like 15 seconds. Saving and loading happens in a flash. So does quitting out. I think it will be fun to just HAVE this game on the ol' desktop to load up and jump into for a quick round of demon slaying. Not sure there's much here to enjoy if you're FRESH MEAT to Diablo 1, but fans of the original will be quite content.
