Diablo + Hellfire

If you didn't play Diablo, play it now.. The soundtrack is amazing. The greatest atmosphere in a game ever. The sound of footsteps, the bones colapsing on the ground, the enemies attacking you, All are great. This is the father of hack and slash arpgs. Devour it now!

This is, indeed, a legendary game!

This title is slightly expensive given how old the game is but I do not think it is a bad value proposition. The game works fine in Windows 10, at least for me, and there are no glitches or graphical issues or any other "old game" issues. The graphics are not very good but you can still see what is going on. The framerate isn't super smooth but it is definitely playable. In terms of gameplay, this game was the forebear of modern action-RPGs and it is still practically unmatched in terms of atmosphere while also having a purity in its gameplay that modern games in this genre tend to lack. The game isn't specifically about loot grinding. You certainly can hunt for loot in this game but it is not the focus. Whether you get the best version of an item is completely secondary to whether you're playing with skill and finesse or just bumbling through the levels. The one and only real negative about this game is that it is indeed very old and therefore lacks modern QoL improvements. A lot of things are not explained properly, and a fair few other things take more effort than they really should. But on the whole, this game is immense, the atmosphere is intense, and having a version here on GOG that just works with no fuss whatsoever is fantastic. Despite reservations with Activision-Blizzard, I consider this a must-own title.

I remember playing this in the 90s and I loved it then so I had to get it. I expected that once I started playing, I would be dissapointged since I've been spoiled by modern games, but I was pleasentrly surprised and played all the way through. No regrets for the $10 spent. I'm glad it wasn't $11+, though - I would have waited.

Ah, what a wonderful addition to GOG. Nothing beats Blizzard's old games. Diablo has the darkest atmosphere, the best music, and the most original setting of all three games. It may lack some of the quality of life changed Diablo II introduced, but none hold a candle to the original Diablo's atmosphere. The first strum of the string in Tristram's tune will have you cracking a smile, cozying up in your chair, ready to be swept away to the dark medieval realm of Diablo.
