Interesting Indie

It's not bad so far. The atmosphere seems pretty good and it makes me think of a mix between Eternal Darkness and Alone in the Dark (classic) with some Resident Evil thrown in for good measure. My only gripes so far are the controls and some of the collision detection. Sometimes, when I fire at the enemies, it doesn't seem to hit them. The animations on the attack are a bit too slow, I think--though I don't know yet, if this can be upgraded or changed. All-and-all: it's an enjoyable indie game and. It's always interesting to see what devs come up with, when they have limits and a framework to build on. Games like this are further evidence that one does not need a billion dollar budget and I firmly believe that the AAA industry is going to collapse under the weight of it's own hubris--and well; boo-hoo! I forget to mention too: the obvious nod to Lovecraf. If you liked alone in the dark, silent hill or resident evil--you may enjoy this.

Enjoyable and Entertaining Game

If you are a fan of the Resident Evil games set in a unnerving and creepy mansion, this game will be worth your time. "Despair: Blood Curse" is a short action-horror survival game that can be completed in under two hours. I found the game's story, setting, characters, and game play to be engaging and immersive. The battles against the human and monster enemies are intense and fun. The final big Boss fight is truly epic and legendary. The firearms in this game are effective during combat. The melee weapons were not really effective as it did not do much damage to the enemies' health. Stick with the firearms, and shoot for the reliable instant kill headshots. The puzzles in this game are easy to solve, and does not require much brain power usage or having a handy walkthrough guide nearby. The game's graphics, environments, and character designs (especially the protagonist Anna), are very detailed and top-notch for a AA game. I highly recommend this short length action-horror survival game. The captivating story, setting, environments, characters, and graphics make "Despair: Blood Curse" a very enjoyable and entertaining game.

Very Good Indie Game

If you just like resi evil games you’ll like this. It won’t give you the deeper story and AAA experience of resident evil but this game is fun. Pros: +Excellent atmosphere. Love the spooky old house, the paintings, the statues. the lighting. +Lots of intriguing exploration. Can feel like a well-done walking sim at times. +Good but simple story. All the notes are fun to find and read. +Solid use of Resi Evil gameplay that’s obviously not of its caliber but will scratch the itch. +Locked doors and puzzles that are fairly easy to solve so there’s not too many game stalls. +Horror is more creepy than terrifying but that is what I personally like. +A great vibe for 1918 but there’s one issue about costuming, see below. There are even references to WW I. +It’s short (which I love because I sometimes want a quick time filler that feels like a morsel of AAA. Cons: -Melee is not very good. -Gun play is okay but not superb. Still, the headshots are fairly satisfying. -I love the 1918 milieu but the outfit the MC wears just doesn’t work for me. For once I would l love to see a woman protag who is dressed in a way that fits the era but is still tough. Otherwise the character looks great for an indie game. -Limited saves. -It’s short. I would rate it a solid 4 stars but I want to give this a boost. This is a well-done game and it deserves to be played. It costs less than a trip to the theater and, unlike there, you can get away from the politics for a while with this one.

Spannend wie ein guter Horrofilm

Ohne lange Dialoge oder Einleitung findet sich unsere Heldin inmitten einer Villa wieder, welche kein Geheimnis daraus macht, dass etwas Unheimliches vor sich geht. In ihrer Hand hält sie einen Brief ihrer Schwester - sie zu finden, ist fortan die Aufgabe des Spielers. In bester Tradition von Survival-Horror-Spielen erwarten uns spärlich beleuchtete und verwinkelte Gänge, viele ominöse Gegenstände, die wir von A nach B schleppen müssen und spärlich verstreute Munition für unsere immer besser werdenden Feuerwaffen. Die brauchen wir auch, denn "Despair: Blood Curse" wartet mit einer Riege sehr individueller Gegner auf, und schnell wird klar: Auf einen Nahkampf dürfen wir es bei diesen Kreaturen auf keinen Fall ankommen lassen. Denn obwohl sie mit einer Axt ausgestattet ist, lassen die Nahkampffähigkeiten der Heldin durchaus zu wünschen übrig. "Despair: Blood Curse" ist nicht der nächste Resident-Evil-Konkurrent - und das muss es auch gar nicht sein. Das Game fokussiert sich auf das Wesentliche, und das waren für den offenbar Ein-Mann-Entwickler (!) eine dichte Atmosphäre, spannende Schusswechsel, leichte Rätseleinlagen und - nicht zuletzt - eine atemberaubend gute Grafik mit einer Heldin, bei der es Spaß macht, sie durch die Gänge huschen zu lassen. Mit einer Spielzeit von zwei Stunden sehe ich den kleinen Einstiegspreis durchaus gerechtfertigt - "Despair: Blood Curse" konsumiert man wie einen guten, abendfüllenden Horrorfilm. Für mich war dieses Werk, dem man die Leidenschaft ansieht, mit der es entwickelt wurde, genau das Richtige!

Unity Resident Evil

While I won't say it's bad, it's far from good (or worth $10). It also has some oddities and jank that makes me this 95% of this was bought from the unity store or in the starting kit. For example, the enemy design is all over the place. Yu have normal men and women doing their best Resident Evil 4 villiager impersonation, sexy Sirenheads, boney boys, and Diablo 3 bootlegs. No common theming with them. And the enviorment feels like a mess. Ignoring the the basement has both an ancient catacombs and two Hell rooms, why does the Resident Evil mansion have a steampunk basement? Not even the player character is safe from this since she has a frilly victorian-inspired stop, but also armor on her right arm like a Final Fantasy character. It doesn't make sense. And why does the game with an axegun that uses blunnderbuss ammo (lead balls for those curious) also have a modern pistolin the catacombs? What setting is this suppose to be? And speaking of the weapons, the axegun ammo and pistol ammo both stack without issue, but the shotgun shells (yes they call them shell instead of ammo because reasons) don't. Not only do they create ther own stack when you pick one up, they also have a cap per stack unlike the other two types of ammo. I feel like this is them using a shotgun asset and not having it sinc with the rest of the game either due to not realizing it or not having enough time. This game is a rough start, but hopefully the creator will get better and learn what did and didn't work and improve from here.
