Doesn't work on MacOS Sierra

As far as I can tell this game doesn't work. After I fiddled with it enough I got it to display fullscreen, and not just one quarter of my screen. However it cannot verify my key, which means I cannot use any online functionality. And when I click on tutorial the whole thing just sits there and does nothing. I found I can drag the bottom border of the popup down to reveal a hidden "close" button that takes me back to the menu. But so far I haven't gotten this game to work, and I'm getting the impression those who made it shouldn't have built what I assume is their own engine for a simple 2d game. Two stars because I'm forced to select a rating.

A catchy title.

Game was released a while ago. Seems multiplayer is offline or everybody's moved on. There is a way to add computer opponents. That's what I played. The level of micromanagement needed to play this is truly astounding. You get a dozen aircraft carriers, each holding multiple fighters and bombers, and you must launch each aircraft independently. Then you have to click on the next carrier and repeat the process. Adding to this, the battle groups are tight and misclicking is virtually guaranteed. There's a lot of reclicking. I probably did more reclicking than anything else. Ballistic subs are apparently worthless. They require a long, long time to launch, are surfaced and are vulnerable during this period... they can also be destroyed by a single shot from anything during this. I can safely say 90% of my nukes launched from subs never left the sub. ICBMs take a very long time to reach their destination and can also be shot down. I decided that tripling or quadrupling up on a target was the only reliable way to hit. Alternatively, the computer opponents all launch at the same time, allied or not, a few minutes into defcon one. Attempting to join them is viable, but boils the game down to a blind-luck gamble. I'd prefer to flip coins or roll dice. Bombers did the best, if accompanied by a flock of fighters. The fighters don't actually fight anything off, they just draw fire. It's important to note that aircraft have fuel and you can only use half of the visible range (a circle on the screen.) If you overshoot, they crash on the way back. Pure guesswork. There are zero strategy guides on how to get ahead of the computer as of this writing, using any search engine. I can safely say I firmly, squarely, and completely lost all half dozen games I played. Most games I have zero nukes remaining unfired and they were all simply shot down. I genuinely have no idea how to improve. I can honestly say I'm very disappointed.

Overall good , but not for everyone.

I got this game i think since release, I found it interesting as idea and gameplay, but a lot limited talking about tactics and strategies. Its a simplicistic strategy game with a very slow real time gameplay, as idea. The single player gets boring very fast, while the multiplayer can be very fun if played with friends, anyway the game is quite slow peaced, and can be very very slow depending what game mode you choose, so its quite a niche game at the end. Besdie that since release the game was acclamed from btoh users and pro reviewers, in my opinion a bit overhyped by geeks cause the graphic style is recalling a lot war games the movie. Anyway still in my opinion there is not enough depth in this game to really raise it to the rank of strategy game masterpiece. About the large number game modes for multiplayer, tbh i recall only 4 or 5, so maybe later was added more that i didnt see, anyway i have the opinon this game can be interesting for ppl who got some friends to play with, it can be fun, it can even be very interesting for someone, but i think it will not keep the most interested for long. Also a note for the price. The regular price tag is more or less the same as it was in 2006, which seems to me actually a bit too high.

Very engrossing !

I have owned DEFCON for some time and have found it highly enjoyable, especially in the multiplayer with the single player being a good thing to play in your spare time, watching the world burn. A good buy in my opinion!
