Artistically splendid, terrible gameplay
This game offers top-notch pixel art. It does look wonderful. Interesting themes and metaphors as well. It is also quite long for the genre. I really wanted to like it. However, this is supposed to be a game, not a cartoon. And it severely lacks interactions, gameplay-wise. There is actually not much to do. Think of it as an isometric walking-simulator. The main action offered is "(slowly) move to progress". There are rare puzzles, but to be honest, they are not really interesting, and do not integrate well into the story. The biggest problem is the way the "game" imposes its (slow) rythm to you. It IS very slow paced, and the game regularly takes back control of the character, without any warning, in order to deliver some specific interaction or dialogue. This makes for quite choppy a frustrating experience. I did get really bored quite often. I did finish the game, thanks to its artistic qualities, and for the rather obscure story. However, when the best advice I can give is "You would probably be better off watching a playthrough, rather than playing youself", there is a serious problem. My advise to the dev team would be : go play "What remains of Edith Finch", and learn how one designs a simple, yet meaningful and interesting gameplay.
Hilft dir das weiter?
