Days Gone

This game has a slow start and it doesn't handhold the player like some other games. The real excitement begins after the prologue, when you meet Obrian and arrive at Lost-Lake. Unlike some games that can become tedious, the more you play Days Gone, the more you enjoy it. What sets it apart from other games is its accurate portrayal of motorcycle behavior. I own a 2016 BMW scrambler, and the bike in the game feels just like it, especially off-road. The game captures the gravity perfectly, and the gear shifts and clutch work of the character are spot-on. I also loved the fuel economy system; you really need to ease up on descents to save gas. In my opinion, Days Gone offers the best off-road motorcycle physics of any video game. I've platinumed it, but I still play just to enjoy the bike rides amidst the guitar background music, stunning landscapes, and chasing hordes. Despite its commercial success and love from many players, the cancellation of its sequel due to a few negative reviews feels tragic. Days Gone is more than a game; it's an experience. If, like me, you passed on it due to some reviews, you really should give it a shot.

Just randomly got it offered by GOG special deal and bought as something to play casually during spare moments. And I did... For the very beginning of the game... And then the mood and storyline kicked in - spent all the time I could, until finished. Unfortunately finished. I couldn't find better words to describe the feeling other than this qoute from someone on Reddit: "Nothing quite scratches that Days Gone itch, though. You are now cursed to never again play a game as satisfying as Days Gone. Welcome to the club 😄"

This is not a survival game, you are not building bases or doing extensive crafting. This is an open world a lot like GTA except you mostly ride the same bike, which you can upgrade. The big selling point of the game was killing huge zombie hordes and it is indeed an amazing and deeply satisfying experience. The plot is pretty much what you would expect from a zombie game, luckily this is not a game that has to be saved by a masterpiece of a story because it's actually fun to play, a lot of fun. Also the game is not woke, which is great.

I bought the game to write a review, show some love to an amazing IP, and put a grain of sand towards someday getting a sequel, unlikely as it may be. I don't play on consoles, so I never heard of this game until it came as a weekly free title on EGS, but the trailer looked ok, so I installed it, launched it, jumped straight into "survival 2" difficulty, and started loving it before even finishing the tutorial. Enemies are though, ammo is scarce, and the characters are as rough as survivors of an apocalyptic event should be to be believable. Around mid-game resources become much easier to find/buy, but the challenges also grow significantly. Travel and exploration are an adventure on their own, whether in the relative safety of the bike or crouching from brush, car, or any other form of cover to the next. The story has a couple of McGuffin plot points and many side quests have the exact same kill->fetch template, but the main quest line is a very engaging emotional rollercoaster. The only thing I didn't like and didn't use is the Focus ability because it slows time. That's a mechanic that IMO should have a story based justification like in The Outer Worlds to be part of a game, although it could have a place during mounted combat, which uses auto-aim since controls are assigned to the bike.

Ive never been so emotionally invested in a games story. Truly amazing. I couldnt sleep because I had to find answers. Its like a great movie with plenty of action and cinamatics to get you involved into the story. Best of its kind. Hope they make a second.
