But when I saw it at the store page, nostalgia punched me hard on my face. So decided to give my take on this game.
I played the disc version when I was a kid. This is back when videogames don't take motorcycle racing too seriously as car racing. I think I got this one on a bargain bin.
The game is FMV based, with road movie running in the background and you control a motorcyclist sprite on top of it.
You dodge obstacles on the road like oil spills and stuffs like that.
As I remember it was awesome, and the sense of speed is there. As I'm a motorcycle lover at heart even when I was a kid, this is the game I play regularly.
It's nothing compared to Moto Racer which was release couple of years later. But I have to admit it's brainless, guilty pleasure while it last.
The instant I discovered this game on GOG, I bought it without a doubt, even though I still have the original disc (inherited form my father, who acquired it back in the 1990's).
Cyclemania is a motorcycle game run in DOS, way older than Moto Racer and other motorcycle classics. The road's graphics are made in Full Motion Video and the player character appears as a motorcyclist sprite.
Your goal is to win road races, where obstacles appear constantly, like oil spills, trucks and cars.
Last time I've played it was back in 2007... I think... anyway, a really, really long time ago.
A decade later, Cyclemania STILL FEELS AMAZING! Of course the game is far from realistic, but remember this is a 1994 video game.

Cyclemania é um jogo de 1994, anterior a outros clássicos de moto como Moto Racer, e usa Full Motion Video para os gráficos das pistas de corrida (as pistas são gravações de rodovias reais), enquanto os personagens dos pilotos são construídos com sprites.
O objetivo do jogador é vencer as corridas de rua, devendo desviar de obstáculos durante a volta (animais, caminhões, pistas, etc).
Mesmo se tratando de um jogo com 27 anos de idade, ele ainda dá muita satisfação ao jogar.
Cyclemania é o raro caso de um jogo de videogame que envelheceu muito bem. É tão divertido quanto qualquer jogo arcade moderno.
Recomendo a todos que comprem! Se for em uma promoção, melhor, mas os R$ 10,00 do preço normal dele também são bem investidos.
I have been waiting for this game to appear on GOG for many years, it's a game I remember fondly. It's a motor racing game where you race through some pretty nice looking tracks (for the time anyway), and you have to dodge oil spills, oncoming traffic and even encounter low flying aeroplanes. I remember it being a lot of fun.
So when I saw it was available I bought it right away. Unfortunately, it seems I have no control over the bike. It drives automatically, follows the bends of the road and it seems stuck to follow the racer in front of me. If that racer slows down, so does my racer. I'd love to hear if anyone else has encountered this and if it has to do with settings or something, because I really want to play this properly again.
Fly down the road on a CBR avoiding all kinds of BS like oncoming traffic, oil spills, horses running across the street, and other bikers' wrecks while being rewared with "points" for your own agressive riding! Don't worry about crashing since the the other riders crash all the time too. Just don't get too busted up, or you'll leave the race in an ambulance. Unfortunately, after one championship circuit, you've experienced all the game has to offer other than laughing at all the linguistic silliness. I wonder if either English was the devs' first language, or it just got published before anyone had a chance to correct it.
For the best time:
Before booting up the game, make sure to change the sound card to SB16 in the DOSBox config. There are some pretty decent tunes here, but you'll need a Sound Blaster 16 card to hear everything properly. Once the game is booted, you'll be greeted with some music with an "epic factor" rivaling the PS1 bootup sound.
In the options menu, leave VFX off unless you want to watch a 90's FMV clip of a motorcycle wreck every time you crash. Unfortunately, the controls are where this game is weakest. The default keyboard controls cannot be remapped from the arrow keys, and the joystick ones aren't much better. It's best to use a 3rd-party utility to map the arrow keys to a gamepad.
The race options let you set the number of laps, presence of obsticals, AI difficulty, and "control level".
I had the best time with the laps set to 3, race type set to "aggressive" (obsticals are more fun), skill set to "professional", and control set to "Bring 'em on" as setting this to "just got here" more or less does all the driving for you.
This game's a good and fun, if shallow, experience. Not much content here, it's practically unfinished by today's standards, but I can pass it off as "charm". Funny the devs got away with it.
Cyclemania is a unique game. How many FMV racing games exist? But it's not really that great.
I was really excited to play it. It looked quite good (FMV games are almost always very ugly...) and it also looked fun. However, it is not.
The game's controls are not very good and sometimes feel a little unresponsive. And there's just so little content that you will be done with it before you feel that you got to scratch the surface.
It was a very disappointing experience for me. There are better options out there, really.
PS: another reviewer says that his bike keeps following the bike in front of him and that it drives automatically. This is not true. The bike in front of you is actually you. It's just that the game looks like it's a first person racer, but it's not. It is a little confusing at first, but you'll get used to it.
