Cyberpunk 2077

The one word to sum up Cyberpunk 2077 is probably "superficial". It does have some good ideas, good bits of story, good characters and a few interesting gameplay mechanics, but all of that is hidded behind many superfluous elements that don't really add any value or present any interest. For example, the story doesn't really have any meaningful philosophy behind it - it's extremely predictable, unimaginative and sometimes boring. If you played Deus Ex HR or MD you have seen most of what Cyberpunk has to offer. In fact, it feels like Deus Ex with more content but much fewer meaningful elements. The story is way better in Deus Ex HR/MD, the gameplay makes more sense and is way more immersive in Deus Ex HR/MD. Cyberpunk is interesting to play mostly because, well, it's a game in the genre of cyberpunk... Witcher 3 didn't offer anything new but did some things very well, Cyberpunk doesn't offer anything revolutionary or new. It's an OK game but if you played Deus Ex, you won't get anything new in principle from you experience with Cyberpunk 2077. Perhaps the biggest problem of this game is that it has been severely, unbelievably overhyped to the point of people getting crazy and calling it a potential benchmark for the entire gaming industry which it definitely isn't and could never ever be.

I bought the game on Steam, since it was cheaper for some reason, I guess GoG messed up regional pricing for this game (just like everything else about it). Horrible performance on hardware that exceeds the Recommended requirements on Low/Medium settings. Plethora of bugs, some gamebreaking. And worse of all, no way to rebind WASD, I'm left handed....forcing me to either play a goddamn PC FPS with a gamepad, or use 3rd party software to hard remap my keyboard. Refunded, last time I pre order; now that you can't even trust CDPR to launch a game in a proper state.

What can I say? I mean you had the goodwill of everyone, and you broke it. The game is missing a lot of common sense features such as movement keybinds, the graphics options are abysmal, the game needs a bit of some optimization. As some people have proven on reddit the configuration problems of the game are messed up. There is just so much missing here in terms of features. This game needs a lot more than just bug fixing, its needs the impossible, a post-launch transformation to add the promised immersive game world that we never really got. The game is a full of broken systems, the pedestrian AI is also broken and isn't dynamic at all, there are no animations for eating or drinking. The kind of thing I thought would be a but common sense to have. Its so clear that CDPR bit off way more than it could chew, and the game clearly has missing content and is missing things that you can notice just by playing it, and it is a real shame because you have a quality story in there, it still shows the passion the developers have for the game. Deep down there is something very good in there, but the game just wasn't ready for release.

Much of the content that was promised was cut. This is more like a open-world story than anything else and it's a shame. What is great in Cyberpunk is truly great, characters, interactions between the main NPCs but outside of that, the game is just a pretty model of a futuristic city. No AI, no customization, same dialogue given by multiple NPCs, aiming is somewhat off. To put it simple, wait until you see new content on Reddit before buying.

After all the wait, what a disappointment. This game is a shallow RPG in an open world that feels like something from 15 years ago. But covered with fancy graphics. Controls are terrible. With either M/K or a controller. Bugs can be fixed. Performance can be improved. But the foundation will remain the same. Lackluster. What a shame.
