Cyberpunk 2077

Overhyped, features that were annouced for release still missing over a year later. Forgetable story, boring gameplay, weak RPG elements. Weakest game from CDPR.

To give a fair and accurate review of this game it's important to compare it to other games in the same genres. 1. Role-playing Game It's strange that this is the first genre listed on GOG, as it is not an RPG at all. There are very few "choices" you can make in this game, and none of the choices you make for the first 95% of the game make any difference. The only other RPG mechanics are the XP system and the inventory. GTA: San Andreas is arguably more of an RPG than Cyberpunk. 2. First-person Shooter The gun mechanics in this game are passable but gunfights themselves are quite boring. Enemy AI seems to have come from the 20th century. 3. Sandbox Game I have played a lot of Grand Theft Auto like sandbox games. Cyberpunk's sandbox would probably rank the worst. There is no fun to be had interacting with the random NPCs. The driving mechanics are stiff and boring. The "wanted level" system in Cyberpunk adds no degree of difficulty. Cyberpunk 2077 is bad at everything it tries to do, and its failures don't stop with the gameplay. As many others have mentioned, the game is very buggy and has frequent performance issues. The most important issue that's not brought up is the quality of the writing. The main story is decent for the first couple hours, after which the quality drops off dramatically. The side quests (if you want to call them that) are all extremely generic. An AI chatbot could have written more compelling stories. The dialogue throughout most of the game seems like a placeholder, and the frequent unsolicited phonecalls from NPCs seem like a prank on the audience. Cyberpunk 2077's failures are especially shocking because they are things CD Projekt Red used to be very good at. It seems apparent that whatever CD Projekt Red was no longer exists. It is truly a tragedy for the industry as a whole.

If you play only the main missions and a few side quests and don't look at anything else, you'll have a great time. The illusion of the world falls apart really quickly when you try to find anything else in the world. Hell, even Ghostrunner has hidden collectibles, but in this game you will find doors you can't open, NPCs that say one line if you can talk to them at all. And this I find very painful for what was advertised. Also one big problem is the game world itself. I turn off the minimap do get fully immersed in the game and unfortunately a lot of places in the game look similar. A regular organic city has different quarters that evolved differently and at different times and have different art styles, but here you'll have a hard time telling the different districts apart (except for Pacifica and the huge mega building). The stealth system isn't perfect and the gun game doesn't feel right, but it's okay for what it is. So while I loved the main story line which would deserve a 5/5 I can't just brush away everything else which feels like playing an unfinished game. I have very high hopes for the addon, so let's see if they can deliver on that.

first played this game when it came out yes, it was not the greatest. but they really switched that situation for the better. Every update bringing new things into it and more patch notes and bug fixes. personally think its a great game now. The story is great, the characters you meet are fun and interesting and the world of Night City is amazing. Would definently give this game a try if you havent and if you have and left, give it another chance because I did and it is great now.

I bought the game just in august, delilberately delaying the experience to give it a fair chance. Well, it worked, because I didn't have any game-breaking issues: it installed and run flawlessly on my rig (3600+3060). It is not flawless: the NPCs are still dumb as f...furrballs, yes, and police behaviour is particularly stupid (no wonder there are multiple mods addressing it). Graphics-wise, frankly, I was not overly impressed : it sure looks nice, but nothing groundbreaking, especially considering the HW exectations (BF V for me looks the same level, and it runs smoothly with half the HW). RTX is particulalry "meh": I played with it for a few hours, but didn't see anything definitive (tons of YT videos confirmed the same), so eventually I just turned it off, tuned details up and enjoyed the view :) The story though...it managed to keep me engaged, to care about certain characters and to loathe others, to go and check out what the background of this or that is...in one word, the story stirred emotions in me. For that alone I'm willing to forgive all faults and be a fan. But that is not all: it gives incredible freedom of choice, from looks to different builds, from origin story to various endings. That is another huge positive for me: I think anyone can find a combination to their liking. I understand some of the criticism, and heaven knows I can agree with some too, but the game deserves to be appreciated, because after a truly sh....shunt, yes, start, it became stable and enjoyable, for the most of it. Is it perfect? Far, far from it. Is it worth your while? Hell yes, absolutley!
