Cyberpunk 2077

As I think enough has been said already about performance, AI, missing mechanics (e.g. police or vehicle damage models), lifelessness of the city itself et cetera, I decided to address a disappointment not shared that often by others and it refers to the general absence of the "Cyberpunk narrative" as a whole because this game does fail to resemble the genre in any meaningful way entirely. In Rob Sheridan's words on Twitter in 2019, "Classic cyberpunk is anti-capitalist, anti-establishment, and not tech-fetishistic but rather SKEPTICAL of how technology is used by systems of power to further oppression. Many modern takes are lacking the skepticism that fueled 80s cyberpunk. Needs more punk, less cyber."(1). I couldn't state it better. This is what the entire genre is about, but in CDPR's vision there is no space for any meaningful reference to even one of those topics. Ironically, the closest references to any of those topics can be found in "real life", which is that Cyberpunk 2077 was built on the backs of exploited workers forced to complete extended shifts of mandatory overtime while its studio heads managed to become billionaires before the game ever saw the light of day. I think William Gibson meant the same when writing in 2018 on Twitter, "The trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 strikes me as GTA skinned-over with a generic 80s retro-future, but hey, that's just me."(2). As we now know, Cyberpunk does not even do well when comparing it to games as the GTA franchise as its currently lacking many of its core game mechanics. In short, Cyberpunk 2077 is a sci-fi Disneyland, a shitty copy of a copy of a copy that qualifies as old-school cyberpunk only in a meta sense and thus the game is unfortunately way too backward-looking and self-referential making it impossible to say anything interesting and meaningful about the present. I fell for the marketing behind this game, this was the 1st game I ever preordered and it will be the last. The game is too short , the interactions with the world are non existent outside of scripted missions, the NPCs AI is lackluster and police AI is non existent. Game feels rushed and from the info coming out it was rushed, some devs claiming that it was scheduled for a 2022 release. I really wanted to love this game but I can't.

Unfortunately while game is engaging and fun its almost nothing comparing what was advertised to us and shown during many occasions almost everything that was show is either cut or turned down to oblivion and entire story is rushed with only fake choices that leads to same ending. When you play you see and fell that there supposed to be something here but is cut like in example first longer cut scene that would be extremely fun if added to introduce V to NC but instead you got 6 months in 1 cut scene resulting omitting huge part of character development. Game give you option to enable nudity but in only works in inventory witch is a joke. Car driving is horrible on keyboard also you got enabled acceleration by default in mouse and cant turn it off. You got access to own apartment but there is 0 reason to go back there ever once you left it. There is 0 customization of own character beside clothing you cant see anywhere other than bike and photo mode. No barber no tatto as was shown it end up being 1 mission cut scene and thats all. No possibility to TPPthat basically ruins lot of cut scenes. (but looking at own shadow meaby its for better since its move are terrrible). Relationship is non existend - 2 female 2 male no mixed no nothing and after 1 scene - not any more progres in it. On the good side is the city while shallow and lacking the attention to small details is amazing (someone you know or target dies - there is a graveyard with his name on grave etc details). Gunplay while fun is ruined by dumb AI. Interesting cars but removed option to any tunning sadly. There is nothing to do after completing main quest - you just load save before last mission - no free play no gamplay plus no nothing. And the list go on.... This game had/have (depends what they will do to it now) enormousness potential and setting is epic just needs loots of new main missions, side mission, something to do in NC beside them that is not kiliing/ stealing/rescuing gangs.

The choices have only few consequences except in certain cases (like saving a specific person during the prologue), or sending the cab to a certain place (prologue again) to get a motorcycle later. There are still other choices, but the consequences are null and void. The customization : Apart from the character creation, and the clothes; there is nothing. Cybernetic modifications change almost nothing 99% of the time. There is no hairdresser, etc ... (I think there's going to be a dlc for that. Clothes ? meh it's not so bad, but really not enough. AI : It's simple, there's no AI. The perks, etc: The game is completely broken, nothing's right. But I attribute this problem to the lack of AI, and the lack of stats balance. The conduct : In ALL vehicles the camera is too "low", except in Johnny's Porsche. The driving ? Meh ... Oh by the way during the "races" the opponent pops if you go too fast ... The story : The main scenario is very short yes, but some side quests ARE part of it... Bugs : So since the game is in early access, I won't say anything about it. After all it's not finished... The immersion: It's the strong point, when there are no bugs Exploration : Meh, no ... If you think you're going to explore with your double jump, is going to end up crossing non-textured areas, like the top of buildings ... vertical exploration ? hmm... Closed doors ... Well, there are some things to explore that are really good. But it's still an early access. I wonder how they're going to do for the DLC, will the story happen after the current end ? Or just add quests in the middle of the game? which I'm afraid of, and in that case I wonder how many people will do them. But after all, I'm certainly wrong I hope. CDPR finish your game. It's out too soon. I hope I can give it a better rating when it's finished.

The game is just ok, but could have been so much better. The marketing overpromises a lot; the game is lacking a lot of features due to cuts and the quests are kind of barebones. I will not preorder in future. The main story is not very satisfying. Choices overall have little impact (especially regarding Evelyn, Dex & Jackie) which makes your interaction a bit pointless. The beginning of the game is very rushed, particularly the lifepaths. Side quests seem to end without much closure or followup. The game is quite short in general. It looks and sounds good, running 1080p medium 30-40fps on AMD RX 570 with Freesync is ok for me. There are lots of bugs, basic ai, phonecall spam, driving feels bad. The weapon and clothing systems needs a lot of tuning to make them feel worthwhile. It is a 3/5 when the bugs are fixed, but don't expect a story or immersion anywhere near the same level as the Witcher series.
